He is apologizing at least
by Sameer Bhagwat on Aug 14, 2012 02:43 PM

Compare it to Srinivasan the head of the BCCI after India's 8-0 drubbing.. he said there is no need for any inquiry if you ask me. The same team won the world cup last year, so all is fine.

Can't see Australian/Germany sports federation commenting like that.

Need to get Hockey back on track!!!!

Dear All,
Hockey is our national sport and pride. I have been following hockey since I was a child. to be honest we have played real good hockey against netherlands , germany and lost heart oce we lost to them. Our players were thinking of medal rather than position. Looks like they lost heart once they knew that we do not qualify for semi finals. There is no need for any enquiry we were not upto the standards set by the europeans. I have been to netherlands last year an was surprised by the support provided to hockey players in that country. Every small village has a hockey stadium laid with synthetic turf and they start hockey at a very youg age between 5 and 10 years with proper hockey attire and kit. We have abundance human population we need sperate budget allocated in pursuit of "winning" olympic medal", tap village power by constructing seperate olympic schools and stadiums for hockey laid with synthetic turfs in our countries each village head quarters, get world class physio's arrange condition camps all these schools shold be funded by central govt and account and audited by them "honestly" start now and wait for 10 to 15 years we will be super power in sports. Out competion should not be with SAARC countries, should be with China/South Korea/Japan ...even a country like North Korea won 4 golds which is remarkable...we should be doing more...hope someone is listening to his advice.... Vilas

PS: we should not hear the "Indian Dance&q

Hockey is not yet the declared national sport of India.
Indian Schools claim hockey to be an expensive and dangerous sport.

Forget cricket and hockey
by sivanantham on Aug 12, 2012 11:26 AM

Now we should focus on only individual games such as athletics, swimming, cycling etc., rather than team events (hockey). Then only we can get more medals.
British PM said "no Indian dance, play sports" to his British people. In fact, it is a very good decision.
Similarly whether our PM will ask "no British's laziest cricket, play other games" to our Indian citizens?
I wonder whether this will happen?

hockey performance

The public should thank Mr Batra for this unconditional and graceful apology to all fans. Also, can he ask the whole team to watch the video replay of the first goal scored by Germany in the Gold medal match agst Holland ... say about 150 times ?

This is exactly what our guys are expected to do near the circle... tho I doubt if any of them can emulate this.

Hockey debacle
by varadarajulu a on Aug 12, 2012 10:35 AM

The initiation of inquiry by Hockey India clearly indicates that there was a big scandal in the selection. Similar enquiries should be pressed for all the events. Remember, the players enjoyed all the luxuries with public and Tax payers money. Most of the players never took the events seriously as their aim is only to visit a foreign country with Govt.'s money. Unfortunately, the merit is onllyl the last criterion whereas recommendation, money, nepotism, political affiliation etc are the dominant factors for selection of the players. The debacle of Indian players in the present Olympics must be an eye opener for Govt and at least now onwards, let it make the selection of players a transparent one with due consideration of merit and capability only as the criterion. In a population of 120 crores, it is difficult to identify good players! Let at least sports and games be made free from politics so that the last glory of our country as Hockey King can be restored.

Hockey debacle
by varadarajulu a on Aug 12, 2012 10:26 AM

Once India was identified with Hockey in the world map. Unfortunately, during the recent past, and especially, this season, our Hockey players brought disgrace by pushing our country to the last place in our National sport. Africans are known for their good performance as Sprinters. Most of the African children go to school by running some times even 20 kms due to poverty. So the sprinters have long practice naturally. Similarly, Chinese players, especially gymnasts are identified in the childhood and given rigorous training sometimes using even physical punishment when they err. Most of the winners from USA are African-Americans due to their genetic inheretince. May be the same thing holds good for Indians also as most of genes of the selected players are filled with corruption and nepotism which is the primary criterion. Unless the sports are games are made free of corruption, India has to satisfy with Silver and Bronze only. A counntry like Hungary, whose size is hardly of the size of a medium sized district in our country could win 12 gold medals with the dedication of their players. Unfortunately, we lack such dedication and hardwork. Surprisingly, only the innocent people are more worried and concerned and pray for India to get medals whereas most of the players are very casual.
