India Had Wrong Team Selection
by Bigtribe on Aug 11, 2012 03:17 PM

There is no dearth of hockey talents in India. Authorities at the helm of hockey do not even know how to scout, understand the competency and select the team for the contest like Olympics. Indian team was very very pathetic...

Hockey needs to be reworked from the scratch:
1. Eliinate the authorities who are responsible for finding only these many players to choose from.
2. Create a specialist team to scout for talent from remotest corners of the country.
3. Create infrastructure ASAP - old olympians are useless as they only had played on the mud or grass field where as the strategics have changed completley.
4. Conduct world class tournaments locally
5. Expose our players with the best of the teams in the world.
6. Provide financial incentives to play hockey.
7. Men and women who repeatedly falter despite years of experiencee by shunted.

Nobbs should be fired
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Aug 09, 2012 11:45 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian hockey coach Michael Nobbs deserved to be fired. He is safe-guarding his position by hiding behind the aegis of Sardar Singh. Nobbs pretensions are analogous those of Nobel Laureate in Science with the research output of a junior college professor. Foreign coaches who are highly paid must not be allowed to escape from responsibilities of delivering. The Olympics were a complete wash out, although the players appeared good. India cannot afford to hire charlatans in any sphere of life and encourage the people to blame its own officials.

Hiring foreign coaches has never been in the best interests of the country. The high salary paid to them has not been so far justified, seeing the products that they deliver.
Why should India hire foreign coaches after getting independence from the British? This is very absurd and ironic.

Its really pity to watch Indian hockey. I have enjoyed game of Dhanraj , Zafar Iqbal , Mohammed shahid , pargat singh. Also Pakistani players of that time were wonderful and Ind / pak matches were reaaly thrilling. But *****dy selectors and politics has ruined our national( ? ) game. Total clean up of players and coaches and selectors is needed. No politics and favourism. Only performance. Then only we can win some medals. Stop participating any tournament. Start building totally new team , practice for 2 -3 years and then only go for encounters. Definetly we will get some achievements.
