lack of speed and agility
by srikant Iyer on Aug 14, 2012 06:08 PM

This time boxers and wrestlers gave a good performance.Though in boxing luck was totally against Indian boxers, who appeared world class. But disappointment has been other sports like athletics, swimming and cycling. The reasons India sportsmen fail on big stage in these sports is due to lack of speed and agility. If they have to do well in these sports they need to adopt fast and pacy style backed by a good technique.

Amazing India?
by M S on Aug 11, 2012 05:29 AM  | Hide replies

I dont understand where we are headed. 65 years post independence and we are so happy that we have won the meager 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. How can there be so much of a difference between two neighbors of similar population. China heading towards 40 golds and some 80 odd medals and look at where we stand. Dont know where we lag? Is it dedication from the individuals, lack of infrastructure, lack of will and focus towards olympics or what? 1.2 billion people, but still happy with 4 medals. On any international forum, be it sports, politics, United Nations, we are just not there. We are viewed as bunch of dumbo's fit for only internal politics and back patting each other. Things should change now. Its high time we show that we are not just present, but we matter too.

What contribution is from your end... forget about your end, your family your friends , your relatives what have they contributed... if you have done nothing then what audacity you have to question... do you know how these athletes get qualified in olympics, what is our infrastructure with respect to olympic games... How does the fund comes to respective athletes who are involved in olympic games... do these athletes are having proper job to ensure their daily life, can they give there 100% in that sport with a sound financial back up... it easy to criticize or pin point... but difficult to understand there apathy

Indian boxers clearly superior
by srikant Iyer on Aug 10, 2012 05:27 PM

I think Mr. Sandhu deserves the credit for his hard efforts. The Indians boxers were clearly superior.Had there been no bias and cheating India could have easily brought at least 2 gold medals. But the boxing was fixed in favour of American and British boxers. The Indian boxig federation should become more stronger at an international level like the BCCI.

Boxing coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu is great
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Aug 10, 2012 08:43 AM

Boxing coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu is a high achiever. Despite biased and racial umpiring, his pupils appeared world class. In future championships, his boxers will easily win the top medals, as he has set a competitive and winning trend in spite of poor facilities and resources. In fact, he has developed ordinary boxers over the years into world-class champions. In comparison, Michael Nobbs is a useless coach and a slob. Despite India's traditional strength in hockey, he is unable to deliver results, and constantly blames the players for poor performance. He is a useless slob on the same lines of cricket coaches like Duncan Fletcher and Greg Chappell.

Qualifying
by Vendan K on Aug 09, 2012 07:15 PM  | Hide replies

Not many people realise that qualifying for olympics in boxing is very hard. To have 7 members in mean that India is now part of amatuer boxing elite.. Great work.
But last olympics (2008) I pointed out how for many years indian boxers are losing close matches and there was a tactical block. Sadly still not rectified.
Remember, not all elite athletes become champions. There is a final block that needs to be smashed.. boxers are finding that difficult. A change might help.

best wishes to the boxers for the future.
by carazon on Aug 09, 2012 06:27 PM

Those who follow sports and followed boxing at the Olympics will know that there is real talent in Indian boxing. Even in these Olympics had it not been for some bad luck and some horrendous decisions they would have won medals. Unlike say archery or hockey where India flopped miserably boxers did well. Unfortunately luck was not with them. I am proud of the Indian boxers.

Looser country..
by Manu N on Aug 09, 2012 05:25 PM  | Hide replies

It would have been more graceful to have stayed at home rather than disgracing the country in this way by representing at Olympics.
Indian Athletes, Sports Ministers and Bureaucrats are all disgrace to our Nation.
The only gold that India can get is for biggest power failure in the world, corruption or for producing labour class low quality graduates.
