Definitely olympians and olympic medals.

Wheter USA,China,Korea,Japan,Italy,France or whichever country you take name of will bench mark India on sports on the basis of olympic achievement. They donot know who is Sachin.

Sachin is a hero among four third world nations like India,Pakistan,Srilanka and Bangladesh and too some extent to Australia,NZ,SAF and our colonial_masters England...

Good Indian performance.

Mary did really well,BUt we expected gold form her.Indian Olympic comittee must appoint pshycologist for every players to achieve highest position gold only, gold gold gold and all players should not be complacenet that i will get that much money, promotion, but keeep aims high,
Indin governments must declare 5 crores rs. prize for gold, 3crors for silver and 1 crores for bronze in next 2016 olympics itself now, immediately,so future young indians players
can strat hardwork today itself rather than complacent on bronze?

Rubbish Mary
by nair radhakrishnan on Aug 09, 2012 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

I was closely following the bout yesterday and Mary had settled in her mind for a bronze and was no way fighting to her potential. The opponent yesterday seemed less superior than her counterpart in the pre-quarters. The media kept on repeating that she is assured of a medal even if she loses and Mary without fighting hard trying for a silver surrendered meekly without a fight. Talks bad of any athlete.

i second. this complacency is endemic among the indians and is principal reason why they r underachievers. Media's approach has long been pretty amatuerish. Run up to mary com's event it kept on harping like a perfect broken record that come what may mary com was going to podium!!! and with this sort of "content" mindset they expect the contingents to turn wonderworkers. I pity these toffee scribes

Another rediff expert on sports - if you know anything about boxing and what category Mary fights in, you would have kept your trap shut instead of talking garbage!

Aim For Gold
by Frodo Baggins on Aug 09, 2012 02:32 PM  | Hide replies

Carl Lewis in an interview last weel on of the Indian Channel said if an athelete is on the field hoping for a Silver , he shouldnt participate.. the aim should be to Win and that means Gold

This ChaltHai attitude of us Indians is what prevevents us from excelling

Saina gets a bronze because the opponent withdrew
Marykom gets a bronze because of the strange rule in boxing where both 3 and 4 gets a bronze

And we are all celebrating and both girls feel they have acheived the ultimate !

It is evident you won't understand what medal is all about. Since childhood I was waiting to see medals from olympic. 1976 Montreal was the game to start with. Doordarshan use to telecast half an hr clips at 10PM before closing down. 1980 Moscow where hockey team got gold. Due to boycott no strong team was there. 4-3 was the result against Spain. Then came 1984 LA, where PT Usha missed bronze by whisker. But for the first time Indians were in finals T&F in two events. (leave Norman Pitchard's silver) 400m Hurdles and 4X400m relay (got 7th. position). Seol was blank. Atlanta, 1 bronze by Leander Paes. Then came Athens , a silver. Beijing started multiple medals 3 in total. this time 4 so far. The heartening point that 2 of them qualified in finals T & F event. These performances actually boosts the moral where it matters most, the youngstars who has taken up the sports as career and dream in their eyes. Time will come, they will excel with multiple gold medals. Give them 8 years maximum.
Interesting fact, India was 4th in football in Rome 1960 and Milkha was 4th in same Olympic. All the top 4 athletes broke then Olympic record.

I have one question for you: instead of talking garbage here, why don't YOU try to implement what Carl Lewis said? The Chalta Hai attitude is in YOU, not in the person you are criticizing! First fill that empty tiny dung-can on your hobbit head with some info on the rules of boxing and in what category Mary usually fights in, and then you will develop some dignity/humility before posting garbage criticizing others who have achieved far more than you!
