Hockey forward line
by anand Swaminathan on Aug 08, 2012 04:01 PM

I watched few Hockey matches. I am of the view that we have to admonish our Forward Line. I saw that the forward line members would like to score the goals in their names, even though there is difficult for them to score and yet they tried to score because they want the goals scored in their names instead of being ball passed to the member near to the goal post. This has resulted that we have wasted so many chances because our team-members would like to attain star-dom. I don't what the coach is doing. Albeit, I am not an expert in Hockey, I could see this type of indiscipline among our forward-line members, Why our coach is not warning the team.

Blame Game!
by Gm Keeda on Aug 08, 2012 03:57 PM

Just before the London Olympics commenced, there were news reports in the press about the poor quality of kits (uniforms) provided to the Indian contingent. Can you deny that this lacklustre performance from the Indians was not due to the poor quality of unforms, especially the shorts? How can you play hockey with one hand (the other hand constantly feeling the rear side to check if it is torn!)? Anyway, thank God, they got at least ill-fitting kits but had Kalmadi been the decision-maker, the team would have got only langots!

We will be 12th
by ashish on Aug 08, 2012 03:47 PM  | Hide replies

I was in the ground to see Germany-India match. Frankly speaking this team is not good enough even to play against Bangladesh.. I do not know how they qualified for Olympic.

I have no doubt they would come 12th.. Any team in the world can defeat this team.. There can not be any team worse than this..

They are a national shame and the whole team (with the exception of Chhetri who saved 3-4 goals in every match) should be barred from playing for India..

We can blindly pick any other team and they would always be better than this branch of losers who went to London to enjoy!! They do not have any passion, any pride in playing for the country.. else they can not be so miserable.

Every state ( who can ) should make a hockey team and launch them to International tournaments, instead of different state players in one team. As different state players could not understand the position of other players and missed the passes.

If your logic is correct, why is players from different states click as a team in other games like cricket? Have you ever seen any English, Spanish or Italian league football? Why do players from different COUNTRIES click as a team? Donate your brain to some medical college for valuable research!

Nostalgia be damned!
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Aug 08, 2012 03:37 PM  | Hide replies

Trouble is India is still nostalgic about its supremacy in hockey in the early part of the 20th century. From total domination of the sport, India is now reduced to a side that gets badly mauled if it does qualify. Still a part of the British empire, Indians then used to get seeding in Wimbledon. They used to get Nobel prizes. Centuries ago, Indians were advanced in Science, Mathematics and astronomy. Finding a route to India used to be the ambition of the rest of the world. It's time to face the reality. Then and only then will there be real improvement.

here comes a lecture!! None thought India will qualify for semis but this very Indian hockey team has defeated Pakistan, South Korea, Belgium time and again in recent times.. Even they have put up respectable fight against GB, Germany.. None was living is nostalgia thinking we will win gold, we simply expected this team to play upto their potential and defeat lesser ranked teams which they have done before..

There is nothing nostalgic about it and the question of noble , mathematics, science is irrelevant in sports!! Usain Bolt does not come from an advanced country excelling in science - why bring irrelevant topics and yes, British government did not award us Noble.. every Noble was hard earned.. Do you even know the name of the last Noble winner from India??

The only and only fact is the players in this team just went to London to enjoy and they are a bunch of losers who do not have any pride, any passion and any motivation for winning for the country!! Axe them.. India will not win Gold but will also not be shamed like this!!

Due to this kind of performance, Hockey in india would not be as popular as like cricket. There would be very few spectetor (including me) for this great sport in future. There is no problem in getting defeated, but the way these guyes played really mad us sad.

i believe hockey is still more popular than cricket at a regional level, you can see stadium attendance in places where hockey is popular its jam packed, as opposed to domestic cricket where there're just groundsmen sitting on those plastic chairs, or some li'l kids on a field trip.

this may show that there is passion among people for hockey but cricket is more hyped sport. even in the lanka-india series you can see our tv channels giving so much airtime to cricket even as oly is going on.

what is galling is our players hv forgotten the basics of hockey including trapping the ball and hitting, not to mention wrong passes excessive unrequired dribbling which is not reqd in modern hockey, am very sad to see this port in the dumps, did some one say this is our national game, pathetic, our officials and govt support is nil, at least our players were good, now all in dumps
