Subedar Vijay Kumar's well deserved success
by VIJAYAKUMAR SR on Aug 05, 2012 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

Rana's observation/s is right and noteworthy. As a well-meaning well-wisher, I caution Vijay not to fall prey by getting hungry for publicity like Bindra, Vijendra, Sodhi, some of whom looked more busy in giving interviews to journalist's rather than in practicing.

Let your words speak louder than your (& Breaking News crazy Journalist's) words.

I am sure Success would bring more humility in you.

LOW PROFILE
by Manoharan on Aug 05, 2012 08:32 PM

Our elders said,"Even @ the most happiest moment, keep low profile". But today, " Express your happiness, by shouting @ the top of your lungs". The attitude should change.

Our nation starved of sports heros and our media makes them
by Shri Hegde on Aug 05, 2012 08:21 PM

heros before they are heros, putting pressure on the players. Failure of Bindra, Deepika Kumari, Sodi are some of the examples. Remember "Anju Bobby George" in 2004, how hyped-up she was and what happened? I am afraid the same pressure is on Vijendra Singh and Sushil Kumar.

if she said chinese are afraid of her, then that's a poor statement indeed.

I am also very unhappy with the way media projected her win.
it was not earned. still highlighted as if she had won gold.
poor vijay kumar just poor spot on TV even after silver.

She is a medalist in Olympics. Respect her. What is the fun in insulting her as if she did a great mistake?
Afterall we can will only 3 or 4 medals in this olympics.
If the feel of chinese afraiding of her gives her good confidence, let her feel that way. No problem.

I agree with jaspal's assessment, there was no pressure of expectation on vijay kumar . our other shooters are good too, they have won in international events including world championships but those events are not even covered by our media...sodhi etc. have won golds in world championships , but did not do well in oly. sodhi even said he has never shot this poorly before. so it's just the 'oly hype' and expectation got to him .

There was also hype surrounding US armyman of marksmanship unit,Sgt. Eller who had won last oly gold in double trap, but let alone qualifying he finished among the last few places with poor score.

VIJAYKR AND KARMAKER SIMPLY BRILLIANT
by damodaran mohan on Aug 05, 2012 03:56 PM

Simply fantastic. The final elimination rounds of rapid fire shooting of 5 targets was real fun watching.Vijay kr. was simply splendid who started with shooting all 5 targets but ended up missing three. But that would not have mattered because the cuban had already shot the GOLD.Any way Vijay kr. proved to be our best shooter so far.Even Karmakar was brilliant. He missed the bronze by a whisker.Media reports about him not getting adequate facilities is unfortunate. At least now his rifle association and govt. should make him available all facilities and prepare him for the next Olyimpics.
