Performing under pressure
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Aug 07, 2012 05:54 AM

Indian athletes and competitors require psychological training and coaching to handle situations of pressure and tension. They must also be taught to cope with the unique strategies, techniques and styles employed by foreign competitors. Such fine polishing with respect to technical and psychological aspects will transform excellent sportsmen to medal winners. It is useless to be a talented Tendulkar without the ability to handle competition and pressure.

limba ram himself was a failure, how can he be the coach
by Subhojit Saha on Aug 06, 2012 12:22 AM

limba ram himself was a failure, how can he be the coach. He himself was a medal hopeful in previous olympics, couldnot hold on his nerves and failed. how is he expected to teach others when he has himself failed in similar condition. Bring in some good foreign coach, and hopefully we will start to win..hopefully will not go the hockey way :)

People first make these our gold medal hopes, if they fail they have excuses like 'young and inexperienced', btw, a fact stat for the excuse makers -- Mexican Mariana Avitia also an 18 year old archer won the bronze this oly, shooting a total of 23 Tens. Her best result was in the quarters with 112 points ( 6 tens, 4 nines, 2 eights). And her older compatriot won the silver.

even though the title says no excuses, i see the article full of excuses, the cross wind, the weather, feeling ill, inexperience. so how come a country like mexico win two medals in archery?

Yes - I think it is a concerted failure of nerves. When your country's best hopes begin to fail you begin to fail too. Because you have competed against them when you see them fail. you too. I cannot understand how cross wind can be used as an excuse in archery.

Yes, the wind cannot be an excuse because as an archer you should be prepared for that, secondly they take aim turn by turn, so if the wind affects you it should also affect your opponent. Moreover deepika in her match did not score a single 10 (this clearly indicates poor form)

good words
by thomas mathew on Aug 05, 2012 03:43 PM

the words from the coaches show a sincerity which is a good thing by itself . Now let them make the team for the Brazil olympics and train them the best and during the next 4 yrs give them the right exposure at all major levels so that when they come to Olympics, they don;t get pressurized and they do well .

THE GRAND GOOF UP OF INDIAN ARCHERY TEAM
by damodaran mohan on Aug 05, 2012 03:41 PM  | Hide replies

Archery team was all more of hype than substance. They can't be blamed because it was the inexperience which cost us the medal. In fact they looked like novices and stood no chance against much experienced sides.Deepika Kumari , supposed to be the best medal prospect proved to be the worst of the lost perhaps because of her young age and inexperience. She has put on so much weight also ! Somehow the Archery team management seems to have goofed up in making proper assessment of the potential of the team.It should be a learning experience .

Yes - this is one trend with Indian athletes. They become satisfied too soon.

It is ok,practice more and prepare for next olympics.

Several archers who won medal are vastly experienced and in the age of 40-45.That means they have played in several olympics before this. You are all in your 20s and have a long way to go.

So,recover and prepare for the future. It is already something great to qualify for olympics belonging to totally undeveloped tiny hemlets like manipur, ranchi or sikkim.

You are bound to get nervous among the rich and gloss of the olympics. You have never seen such an atmosphere in life.

All the best for future...

Accepting par below performance of their wards by the coaches is a ve sign. Things will improve once they analyse the cause of failure. They will win minimun 3 medals in 2016 not one as all our participants are young, talented but short of experience. Keep up the moral and do not give up. Look at Sardar Sandhu, he took 16 years to produce the 1st olympic medalist and now India ia a force in world boxing. Work extra hard search for new talent and in another 4 years you should be ready to send 2 teams each for men & women so that Nations AMBITION is fulfilled. GREAT INDIANS .......... GO AHEAD..........
