on Hockey. For one gold medal we have to support 16 to 20 players. If we provide the same kind of support in other Gymnastics or Diving we have better chance of getting some medals.

Without getting
by THOMAS SEBASTIAN on Aug 04, 2012 06:41 PM

emotional, few things need to be addressed urgently.
a) Taller and sturdy players need to be picked

b) Get the committment in writing from players.

c) Give the coach and team more time ,a psychologist,a video analystand three way communication headsets for use during matches.

When India plays european teams it looks like a match between school children and collage boys.

It is not just Nobbs ventilating the point. It was quite visible from the ways the 3 matches were played. Except for the match against Netherlands the other 2 matches were routine stuff. The performance was much better in the road to London matches

INDIA WILL HAVE TO PRODUCE 1-2 INDIVIDUAL WORLD'S BEST
by damodaran mohan on Aug 04, 2012 05:35 PM

It seems the coach by venting such frustrating is only trying to absolve himself of the blame. The fact remains the team needs more time and are not good enough to match with the best teams in the world. The team has limitations of potential and gets clearly reflected the way they are unable to 'finish' in the opponents D.Every time it is the usual foray only to either lose the ball or hit out ending in 16 yards shot. They are not able to earn penalty corner even and even when they do on rare occasion are unable to convert.Defence is equally worse leaving gaping holes. But it is not that nothing has been dome. Lot of ground has been covered and the current Indian side is much improved side. Only that it has long way to go, may be 5-10 yrs.The effort should be to produce one or two outstanding players who should be best in the world around whom the team has to be built. It must be remembered that when India was a Hockey force to reckon with in the world the team had 1-2 best players in the world.Currently there are no such individual world beaters.

Nobb's Anger

He should have known that he was coaching a bunch of useless players who will never measure up to the real world standards.
He should have known that Indians can never function and win as a team.

It's folks like you who talk nonsense all the time. I had predicted that the Indian team will lose all their games in their pool. Three down and two more to go. Blind and unreasonable people like you cannot think.

Bad coaching
by Raju on Aug 04, 2012 05:17 PM  | Hide replies

Australian coaches are not suited for Indian teams. Anyone remember Greg Chappell ?
You have to look at it practically. Our hockey players have been brought up in a certain mindset and that wont change after they become professionals. It also seems as if the coach is trying to impose his culture on to the players. That usually faces resistance from the players and it means the coach thinks he is above the players and he doesnt have respect for them. Its a recipe for disaster.

Get Australian coaches for youth level and college level athletes but not directly for national teams. Its also irresponsible on the part of this coach to bail out on your team when they are still playing the games.

If you want to compete against western players you have to be tough like them mentally and physically. Only a western coach can train that way. An Indian coach will probably be ok for Asian games.

Nobbs said,"I come from a sporting culture where players are willing to line up their coffins on the side of the pitch."
That defines why they win over and over again.

It is because we offer too much reward for achieving too little. See what government is giving to the two players who won Silver and Bronze.
