Spare a thought for these representatives of India!
by Niranjan Balachandran on Aug 03, 2012 11:23 AM

It is very easy to say that these people have failed to live up to hype and expectation, but whose fault is it really? Most of us don;t care what they do, how easy/difficult it is for these sportspeople to practice their sport and so on. We suddenly put them all in the spotlight once in 4 years, and these people know that anything less than a medal will only invite negative comments. Could any one of us excel in such conditions?

Some of our best sportspeople are truly great because they do well despite all this one-sided burden of expectation. If we really care to win a medal, we as the people of India must make sure that the Sports Federation of India is nurturing these people in the right manner, and not have some news channel dig out 4 years later that one of these people is doing some menial job somewhere to earn a simple livelihood.

Deepika deserves all our support.. She is a young girl beat all the odds and come this long as top seeded in archery.. Sports is a cruel world in which such disppointment happens in your odd day..Partially she would give in to pressure of expectations.. No doubt that it is only a matter of time that the elusive medal will be her possesion in next olympics..

Dissapointed Performance by Deepika
by anand sekar on Aug 03, 2012 05:04 AM  | Hide replies

In her comments about the loss, she has mentioned that there are years to come as she is just 18. If she cannot do it now, she will never be able to do it again...

Do you know what was her background- with no big money with her parents, it is with her sheer skill that she has been able to come up to this level. 18 years is not young for an international player than what is? what were you doing when you were 18?
Don't criticise just for the heck of it!!

But did this early success go to her head? she seemed to care two hoots for coach Limba Ram during the event?

Dissapointed Performance by Deepika

I did see the match, she was not serious or focused on the game. She was very causal in her performance and had no clue what she was doing. Wind is not the factor for her loss, it is her inability to perform. If you had seen the match, the other contestant was very focused... Good for her, with our Income Tax amount she paid a free visit to London for just doing nothing... Very disapointing as she did not even make an attempt to win...Did see the match, to me it seemed like she was very casual while the other candidate looked very serious...

She is #1 world ranking, more was expected of her ....but she is
by Shri Hegde on Aug 02, 2012 07:21 PM

also 18 years, at that age what were we doing? So, give her some slack. If she said she did her best, then let's believe that and move on.

Archery losses

Last week I predicted that Deepika Kumari will certainly lose and get no medals at all. Do you folks remember her mother's statement that she will certainly win a medal. At that time I mentioned that they were counting the chickens before they hatch!!
This is typical of most Indian contestants. They are all hype without any ability to deliver.

Atleast she was world number 1 in archery and just 18 years old.
In next Olympics she will be 22 and much more matured to handle pressure.

same story sinnce last 20 yrs
by jet on Aug 02, 2012 02:09 AM  | Hide replies

since the time of Limbaram our arhery team repeats the same story. They win couple of medals in the world championships when strong countries like Korea sends their 2nd or 3rd best teams and we start hyping our players and expect them to wind medals. The media also increases the hype and creates false hopes on the ever-hopeful people of India. we did not expected any medals from Malliswari,Rathod,Bindra and Vijender but they won medals. We should stop playing in games like commonnwealth and saf games where our players winds some gold medals and we start imagining world champions in them. we should ban the media and stop the hype.

Pressure due to over ambitous expectations
by Manoj Adwani on Aug 02, 2012 12:01 AM  | Hide replies

Like Deepika kumari falling well short of her personal best and crashing out in the preliminary rounds, it has been the same story from the Olymics who were and capable of doing. We should always remember that Deepika kumari is just 18 yrs old and this is her first Olympics and the pressure and nerves got to her
