Pathetic hockey by Indians
by PG on Aug 02, 2012 08:19 PM

It was a very disappointing performance by the Indians who just did not have the pace or power to overwhelm the Kiwis. Rather, age-old errors seemed to creep into India's game with badly positioned forwards inside the striking circle, over-dribbling and lack of variety in their attacks." I watched the entire match. India did not play modern hockey at all. But I will blame the coach more than the players for this. I did not feel that Indians trained under a foreign coach (with due respect to Indian coaches). And I did not see the coach doing anything special during the match (not even during the break) or coming up with a new plan/attacking strategy, except changing the goalkeeper. I also think that Indians considered NZ as weaker opponent and that's why they were lazy in the field and not hungry enough to win the game. NZ were just opposite. I haven't watched Indian hockey since quite some time but if this is Indian hockey team then I have no more hope in this Olympics although I wanted India to win at least bronze in this sport which is our national game. Its so s-h-a-m-e-ful!

Gotten used to India losing in Field Hockey...
by Chicago Male on Aug 02, 2012 04:34 AM

I have more or less gotten used to India losing Hockey matches. If two teams are in crunch situation and one of them is India (as was the case with this match) you can be assured that India will lose. We just dont have infrastructure or will to succeed.

we should just go eat our pop corn and drink a cola and watch Chakde India and feel good about ourselves. Oh wait we can't do that because 600 Million people don't have power. What a shame. This is embarrassing all around.

And we want to be a Super Power nation, eh?

how many more matches to finish ????
by thomas mathew on Aug 02, 2012 02:52 AM  | Hide replies

How fast can Indian team return home is the thing to look to . They should remove chhetri and try the No 2 goalkeeper to reduce the margin of defeat. Please change the natioanla game to Kabaddi and push for including that in Olympics and that would be the only way to win Gold every year till Chinese learn it and win.

why waste money. they should have a pre-qualification in India and those who are sure to win a medal only should be send and none else and only bare minimum officials shd go along . we dont have money to waste like this . we have so many things to do : miles to go before we sleep and miles to go before we sleep . Our archery team and their officials always blame it on cross winds for their failure when all other teams score perfect tens in any circumstance and that is where true champions are seen and not crib masters.

do you really follow olympics - for every person or team there is a qualification , simply some x cannot go out there and say i did 100mt in 9.2 sec and qualify for olympics.

West changed the game. From grass field to Astro-turf. That impacted the poor countries.

Why people of other sports blame cricket for their ills ???
by Mahesh V on Aug 01, 2012 11:11 PM

It is a fact of life that nothing sells like success. And like it or not India is successful only in cricket and chess (if you consider chess a sport). So no point always crying about popularity of cricket. If you are successful then people will follow you.

Olympics Saga

While I appreciate people like Om SHanthi for their enthusiasm and support to the Indian contingent, I hope, they are slowly getting a reality check, 5 days into the games. India@Olympics has always been this way, with too much predictions and then disappointments. This is how it goes:

2 months before the games: Govt says, they have hired foreign coaches, sent players abroad for training, provided with world class facilities ..blah blah blah

1 month before olympics: every tom, dick and harry that goes to olympics says, we are ready for the games, we will get back with GOLD, jai ho ...blah blah blah

Just before the games start: Indian public is made to believe they have the best chances of winning medals this time.

During the games: Due to bad luck, inclement weather, we coudn't finish at the podium...we will try next time.

Right after the games: All the leading newspapers carry articles ' Why India fails at Olympics' , 'Corruption at the root level', ' Indians dont carry the temperament to suceed', ' Facilities not that good' etc etc and critizice the govt.

Enough !!!!!! for god damn sake, let the performance do the talking ...otherwise to all the players, coaches, govt staff - KINDLY SHUT UP. We dont want any excuses.

The only positives we can take from this games is that our Boxing contingent has improves by leaps and bounds, Our shooters have been getting us at least 1 medal in the last three editions, Thanks to Gopi, our shuttlers have put up a good show.
