Nadal had not at all performed poorly last year-he had reached most of the finals-the last time he and Novak-met-was a tough fight-Nadal is not a just clay court king-as many believe-it's just his high voltage intensity-physically and mentally take their toll even on a supremely fit player like Rafa-hope he's smart enough to reach the next level-Federer and Nadal still a league ahead of their peers now-though Novak is fast approaching their level-G.Muralidhar

You are right Muralidhar.Rafa needs tol tone down his game a bit.And I dont understand why he has to play doubles in some tournaments when he's already taking a huge hit playing singles. He shoudl focus on the slams.Well it's only the seriously handicapped like MIthani who still think he's a clay courter. That debate was over long ago.

He is preparing for Olympic by playing double my dear, doest matter to me if he is gonna win any other match from now onwards, he will remain a champion player for me. People say clay court king, so what, isnt this court as well a part of Tennis, is this court has less value dan others, why no one else has rule the court the way he can.

the bottomline is tht nadal is a clay-court specialist. Other find it difficult to knock him over on clay than on other surfaces.

I would call him a complete player with almost unbeatable on clay. All players have liking of an perticular area so d Nadal. He is difficult player to play on any court but next to impossible at Clay. I m sure he will b having 99% winning record on clay

He's an all court player and the King of clay. It's only the seriously retarded people like Mithani who still argue that Nadal is a unidimensional clay courter. He has mastered every single surface and his record speaks for it.
No surprise for clay court player like nadal. Atleast nadal finally won a title in almost a year. Since last year, players like federer, novak and andy already have won titles while nadal was the only one with no title. He still hasn't won a title other than clay since 2010. It just proves that when it comes to surfaces other than clay, nadal struggles to beat players. Kudos to novak for playing matches even after finding out about his grandfather. He wasn't 100% in the tournament. Lucky for nadal, novak wasn't 100% and lucky for nadal that it was clay surface.

No surprise? But you were claiming he would struggle even on clay?Well unsurprisingly you have forgot what you yourself said.Foot in the mouth once again.Anyway...if Nadal's 16/20 Masters coming on clay makes him a clay courter, why doesnt Federer's 14/19 coming on hard courts make him a hard courter? No surprises there,Federer won a few tourneys on hard court, where the top players were missing,he's just lucky Nadal was injured in Indian Wells,Lucky for Federer Nadal wasnt 100% and it was hard surface.

Even in all these periods, as u said Nadal was suffering, He reached alomst all the finale except couple. That shows even with less 100% he is good enuf to beat others, loosing to Nova, he was improving after every game, initially he lost to Nova in one sided game but he doest took a set in US Open, almost won Australian open and now finally beat him. Good days are ahead my dear, Nova not going to get better but Nadal will. Federer may find it difficult to win Slams any more and Andy ot able to sustain till finale due to his Mental problem. U will see different year this year for Nadal is not completly reverse, i cant see anyone beating him in Rolland Garros and strong contendor for Wimbledon as well. Interesting year ahead, it will be very interesting to see how Nova able to hold himself once he will start loosing.

HAHAHA looks like you watch tennis rarely and surely you dont have a clue about it.Anyway wont you tell us how come Nadal becomes a clay courter if he wins 15/19 on clay(excluding this one) but Federer is an all court player winning 14/19 on hard courts?Anyway hardcourter's gonna have to wait a looooong time to win anything (and of course no slams LOL).

I said nadal was "struggling" not "suffering". suffering makes it sound like he was sick. he was 100% in non-clay meetings with other players but its hard for him to win being a clay player since his game finds more comfort on clay and it shows from his clay records. His success is mostly on clay. he either loses in early rounds, semis or finals in non-clay events. and it shows too since he hasn't won a non-clay title since 2010. yes, he came in the finals yet he failed to win it. if it was clay, he would not lose. a better player beat him in a non-clay event. he lost mostly to novak but he also lost to federer, murray to name a few. federer did get alot of chances to win slams even though he is past his prime and he will continue to challenge novak and nadal and try to win a slam. and I think he can do it. and Novak has been beaten before like last year vs federer but he came back strong. and even before nadal beat him here, Novak lost to Isner. so novak already knows how to hold himself even after a loss. This tournament was tough on novak as he lost his loved one. I think Novak will back strong once he deals with the loss of his grandfather.

You 'think',Mithani??That was the funniest part of your post.Anyway, have you figured out how to defend your own statements yet?How does Federer become an all court plater if he wins 14/19 masters on hard court, but Nadal's a clay courter if he wins 15/19?Please explain.
At Times I felt -Nadal never had a plan B or C . I am extremely happy he has won against a great player who is playing the best tennis -reminding Fedderer era in 2006-08 . Well done hope to see Nadal win the next French open - perhaps even Australian open de facto was lost by a single point ,will hopefully give the confidence he can beat the best .However would still love to see him play a different stategy fro m time to time against the top other three players.
Well played RAFA.A deserving winner.Wonder where Rediff's (self appointed)tennis guru Hussein Mithani is cowering now along with the abusive street urchin Vasantibhen.Well more than the tournament win,I think it's more important that Rafa broke the series of losses to Nole. For a fighter like Nadal who likes to prove the losers wrong, this couldnt have come at a better time. This should make the French and Wimbledon more exciting.Tennis' best 2 players are just getting set for another series of showdowns.Should be a treat to watch.
