MESSI MAGIC SPELL ALL OVER
by damodaran mohan on Sep 03, 2011 12:49 PM

Thank god Messi didn't dissappoint.Messi magic was there indeed in good measure all over.In fact he played much better than what we saw of him in WC.Looked sharp with quick dribbles and couple of clean shoots at the Goal.Overall the match was worth the time spent unlike earlier such high profile boring matches.Although ARG dominated but couple of VENZ counter attack looked more dangerous and but for the GK VENZ could have surged ahead. One can only wish with this auspicious start ARG will improve further from here and Messi magic will be there in abundance in the next WC.

Football knowledge in India
by premjit mishra on Sep 03, 2011 05:22 AM  | Hide replies

I may be wring in my view, but I found football knowledge in India is not deep. For eg,in the current Argentinine team, the whole focus was on Messy ,but there are equally talented players like Higuain(Real Madrid),Di Maria (Real MAdrid) ,Augeuro (Mancheter City) .Thay are the best of the best.

So its good India got a chance to view players of such talents.

yeah, but what was the level of their performances yesterday? Argentine coach need to seriously think about the team. Without Messi, this team is pedestrian whatever may be the price tags of the players.

Was it good for Indian Footbal
by Monideep Saha on Sep 02, 2011 11:20 PM  | Hide replies

The amount of money spent on this International friendly between two countries who play world cup hosted by a country ranked 158 in August'11(best 94 in 1996) did it do any good for us.We can watch these teams on television. When our football players ask for astroturf they are not gifted the same, leave aside fibre goalposts (they haven't dreamt of these in their worst nightmare). The amount of media hype we saw for this match if they could have spent some ink/webspace/airtime for Indian football may be could have done better.Overheard one of the sponsors say that nowon everyyear they will be hosting such football fest, would be obliged if they do so for local talents. Then may be we can have a Messi from India too and someday in our dreams or future we can go to Argentina to play International friendly with another country.

maximum 8% of total population of world knows about cricket, but India as cricket leading nation has played in every corner in world for the virtue of this game, & Soccer world's most poular game & a truly global event. So it is quite justified to arrange this kind of international friendlies duly recognised by FIFA(this the first of this kind in India - Quite shame for us)so that we can atleast get a support to become a little bright part of this beautiful game in near future

Mr yeah Ms S Chat, u should get a job in UN cause ur knowledge about world is superb. When u said max 8% people knows abt cricket..it proves me that what a mar0n u are..like a frog living in pond.

Only South Asia (India, Pak, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Nepal) holds 26% of World population. And, if u add Australia, NZ, SA, Zimbawae, England, 15 Carribean countries ( WI), and many countries incl Afganistand who are following cricket will cross nearly 35% of world population. And, China is taking it seriously and check wikipedia to know about China plans in cricket (they ve nearly 100 clubs wo are actively preparing for the game)... now go and check what kind of f00l u are... get a life

whatever you write, overall, football is the most popular game all around the world. The funny thing is that most of the countries who follow cricket follow football as well.

The big difference is, almost all the people in all the cricket playing countries whom you mentioned above as well as the non playing cricket countries watches EPL and world cup football or european cup with almost equal enthusiam as how they watch cricket, where as I dont think african countries or latin american countries or even european countries, bar UK or ireland or holland,or china or russia will be watching even the greatest cricketing event called world cup cricket. So that is the difference between the popularity of football and cricket.

From a general point of view, by reading the above two comments, Mr. Surya das who called S.Chat a fool should get life!!

Mr Das..the South Asian countries that you have mentioned..nearly 30-35% of the population do not even have access to basic Television. This is not US or Europe where almost every household has TV sets.. In this context your claim of 35% of world population sounds hollow. Agreed Cricket is by far the no 1 sport in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka ...that's all to it. Please do not compare it to soccer..it is far bigger and far more popular in almost every nook and corner in the world... remember in this forum Indians are discussing a friendly between 2 South American teams..that itself tells the whole story.

Mr Vijay, did u read the above person's comment? He was telling "8% of world population know cricket".. then my ans was not 8%..it was AT LEAST 35% people know about cricket. Do u understand the meaning of "know"? I never said that 35% world population watching cricket. Watching on tv is not the criteria alone, in India and many other south asian countries follow via other medium.

Did I say a single word about football? Did I say that cricket is more popular than football? Did I compare cricket with football? answer is BIG NO. Then in what sense r u telling all these.

To Sheev Kumar, 200 countries football is popular..where did u get this figure? Out of 7 biggest countries in terms of area and population, 4 of them football not even comes in top 3. These countries are US, China, India, Canada. And, their population is 40 of % world population. If u go by numbers, then cricket is following by 25 countries at least. which includes 15 independent carribean countries ( who represents independently in other sports incl Olympics and football). But, again im reminding u that im not comparing with football. (I fully agreed that this is the only sport which has world presence.) But without any comparision, cricket is the second most popular sport on earth. And, sad but true that ICC run by few lootre who are neither interested to promote this game globally nor ve any intention for this.

I believe Mr Sheev Kumar, u r trying to say that 200 member countries under FIFA. Which I agreed, but by saying football is popular in 200 countries is not correct.

Mr Hari, I would like to inform u again that u didnt understand my previous comment. I never said a single word on football, nor I have compared with cricket. So, it is surprising to see all of urs comment. My point was ONLY to inform that "it is not merely 8% rather nearly more than 35% of world population knows about cricket." I fully agreed "Football" is the only sport which has global presence. Followed by Cricket and Rugby. Cause Im not going by number of countries, but cricket and rugby may ve very small number of countries follows but during world cup people of these countries shows equal enthusiasm like soccer.

And, sorry I never intend to disregard Mr/Ms S Chat by calling f00l..it was just abreviation to the frog story. About UN post, it was a light joke.

Anyway, cheers.. ve a gr8 wknd ahead to all. Jai Hind

Everyting was alright except the referee ended the match one minute earlier than the schedule; also not considered the injury time of about 4 min. Venezualans drew attention of the referee, but in vain.

Messi ran and ran and the opponents running behind him chasing. playing football looked so easy and worth enjoying.. though the focus was on him, he disappointed the fans a bit by not scoring a goal.. in any case he has charmed the spectators... brilliant...
