Just celebrate the champions and their deeds....
by Manu Zach on Jun 30, 2011 08:38 PM  | Hide replies

Some people seem to find happiness in talking about how the great Roger Federer was conquered at the Wimbledon, as if they have some personal scores to settle with the latter. Why can't they just think for a second that they are talking about a man who has won 6 (I guess) titles and that too 5 in a row at the Championships. Federer is 30 years old, and some younger, fitter and stronger players are emerging on the scene which is increasingly becoming a power sport in all aspects.
These miserable souls seem to find happiness in celebrating the fall of a champion. Federer is human, and like all other human beings, there is a limit to what he can achieve in his trade, and he too must bow out one day.

Very well said! Every champion has to put in lots of efforts to be at the top. Lets not undermine their gr8ness.

Don't understand why Federer fans are crying. Only Federer lost
by Another Critic on Jun 30, 2011 08:14 PM  | Hide replies

Rafa did not win Wimbledon yet. Also, Federer fans should be happy that someone better than Federer are still in the competition to stop Rafa. Don't you guys think it's Federer's mistake to defeat Djokovic in the French semis who could have demolished Rafa into pieces in the French Open final? Don't you guys think if Federer reaches Wimby finals and gets beaten by Rafa again, the 8-17 head to head record can get much worse?

As long as that "16" is in tact, Federer fans should be happy. It is more important now to cheer for Murray, Djokovic, Tsonga (I know it's hard to cheer for Tsonga, but you can do this for Federer) than mourning Federer's loss.

Can anyone help me out in consoling these Federer fans?

haha..dude looks like u just read news but watch only little. Djoker would have demolished rafa in FO final? My foot. Earlier this year rafa lost 6 pounds owing to fever. Djoker out ran him in those matches. Also Nadal's forehand is not to be seen anywhere for whatever reason. I dont want to take anything away from djoker, but real rafa is back in FO. Dont beleive me? wait for the WIM final between rafa-djoker and see. It will be an east win for rafa.we can talk then.
Coming to federer, even rafa fans want federer to continue playing. So that rafa can kick fedex black and blue more times. Now that rafa will be no2 for us open. I just wish federer can make to SF to meet rafa.

I do agree with "Another critic" that Novak wud hav been a handful for Rafa in the French open final. I am a die hard Rafa fan, but do realise that Rafa always fancies his chance against Roger than anyone else. I had watched the previous 2 clay court finals against Novak & had an underlining feeling that Rafa had a mental block against Novak the same way Roger had over Rafa. BTW Rafa getting to 2 and Roger in 3 does not guarantee them a SF meeting in US Open. It is the way they are drawn (top half or bottom half)

If Djoker really demolishes Rafa into pieces, would I have Rafa avatar to my ID? Just sarcasm. A die hard Rafa fan, Rafa forever.

When Rafa quits, I will quit watching tennis. May be I will watch, but not with great interest, and that's not watching really for me.

I've watched tennis before Rafa as well, but not with the same interest. Rafa is at different level, a warrior and an inspiration to me.

Now the baton has passed finally..Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Del P
by Hari on Jun 30, 2011 06:52 PM

Federer is one of the best ever tennis players, no question about that, as the ever faithful statistics clearly show that his sustained domination over a 3 year period was quite unlike in the history of Tennis. His stay as number 1, top 3, top 5, top 10, grandslam wins, semifinal streaks, QF, Finals in slams all will take decades to top if ever it happens. Every sport has their invincible champions, A tiger, schumacher, Jordan and Federer is one in the same league. Federer is playing just as well but has lost the little extra bit confidence or grit to clinch crunch points time and again consistently against top 5 players ( or who play in that level in one match), just as he showed in his last five defeats this year. This quality is what separates a good top 10 player from a number 1 player. Once he loses momentum in a match, Federer is not the best comeback man rightnow. Nadal is showing it winning matches somehow even though not playing his best, Del potro, Djokovic also have that ability. But Federer sure beat Djokovic last time in the reckoning, that might be his last hurray against top players in grandslams. Now we expect Fed to win many more ATP 500, Some masters tournies coming to 2012. Though chances are slim, as a great champion once, he can prove all critics wrong at times when every thing comes together once more, that is the delicious unpredictability whenever Federer marches into further slam matches in future.

Federer Era is Over
by sailas g on Jun 30, 2011 03:01 PM  | Hide replies

Now its official that federer era is over. Everybody else is playing like Federer and Federer is not playing Federer( or what people aware of Federer). His serve is not lethal and accurate as it used to be, not much power in his forehands, running backhand shots are weak and had problems in his mental or game plans.

He still has the game to reach last 8 in grandslams but he don't have game left to reach the last point. He is like a old Lion. Still a Lion, but its old :)

Unless there is a dramatic change in his current weakpoints and comesback to the level of Old Federer, we can say Good bye Federer. :)

You are correct. He does not have the power in his shots any more. Also he does not have that much of energy to cover the court by running endlessly like Nadal. Still he is a Legend.

Only a person like Sachin survives in a sport called cricket where out of 100 balls he will score 50 runs and most of the time he does not have any physical exertion. That is not the case with tennis or football or other sports where u have to do a lot of running diving and so on.

one thing which will always bother fedex is not defeating rafa in french open ... another point to ponder is if rafa has defeated fedex so many times, is he a greater than fedex? or things would have been different if both were of same age group ... its like in F1 where schumacher is loosing to vettel. Rafa can go on for another 2-3 yr max and only time will tell if he can surpass fedex's grand slam tally. but its thier rivalary that ppl have enjoyed.
