bored of more baseline players and favouritism
by srikanth s on Jul 02, 2011 11:55 AM

tennis used to be a beautiful game in all th earlier years owing o some of the best attacking players with their serve and volley specially . but now the current crop of players are playing more baseliners and power servers there is no artistry nowadays except for a couple of daring players who rush to the nets like tsonga, del potro . playing from the baseline is more of a defensive strategy which these coaches teach , its good but the serve and volley provides more interest in the sport.
The draw which favours the top ranking players should be removed so that there are other champions also .
other than arhur ashe and noah there are very few colored champions now so i see a hint of racism too ... only europeans and US whites winning it . lets hope this is not true.
as in ladies only when williams sisters are out there seems to be sharapova (not good other than a barrage of ground strokes)and other galm dolls . wish to see some one of justin henins clas again

becoming another Safina
by David Coulthard on Jul 01, 2011 10:59 PM

Dinara Safina, Jelena Jankovic (never became #1), are classic examples of rank #1 never winning a grand slam. Wozniacki shud change her game to suit the circumstances. Base-line may be her strong point but she shud go for the drop shot and look at volleying as well.

India can not produce quality Tennis Players.
by Proud Idian on Jun 29, 2011 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

Why can not we produce players of that caliber? Our best pales in comparison to these icons. Ramesh Krishnan, Leander Paes, Sania Mirza & Rohan Bopanna are our champion players who are demi gods in India. But on the int’l circuit, they are hardly known as their achievements are paltry.

Instead of shouting over the rooftop, just shut your mouth & think minutely who's responsible for this? Isn't it our total succumbing to Cricket? We eat cricket, we shit cricket, cricket screws us & we let it screw us with open pants.

PAt I think the reason we like cricket is that cricket is a great leveller. If you fail with the bat, you can still bowl and field well and win the match. But in the other sports, you are pretty much on your own. Secondly, cricket has brought many heroes which other sports havent. Kapil, Sunny, Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly were world class players. I remember once upon a time I used to be a big fan of Leander Paes but beyond Davis Cup he could not do anything and I started losiing interest. So would you really blame people if their interest in cricket is more than in any other sports?

hi boss, we need quality stadiums and tennis academies. In US you find academies in every gully like that of corporate colleges in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad corporate colleges are producing toppers for IIT's in 100s and in the same way US is producing players in 100s.

Our Sania is still a match for them while leander and Mahesh are making quick bucks.
We can't do any better than this.

Actually tennis today is primarily about fitness and power. How many graceful players do you see anymore. Its a dead sport. Golf is where I see the nextGen thriving in.

Caroline's Chances
by brahmarakshas on Jun 29, 2011 03:59 PM  | Hide replies

Caroline is just 20, so the chances that she will win a grand slam seem pretty high. But considering the rate at which these girls tend to flame out after reaching the top, maybe she has not got much time. These days, anyone above 25 is considered old in women's tennis, so caroline better win it as early as possible. Anyway, she is better than kournikova who didn't even win a single WTA tournament, but was famous for reasons other than tennis.

Playing Grand slams in 4.5 years is quite an amazing achievement as you need to qualify to play these tournaments. You just can't go and play a grand slam
