Federer: king of all surfaces
by HUSSAIN MITHANI on Jun 07, 2011 06:50 AM  | Hide replies

federer has appeared in 23 grand slam finals:
Five Australian open finals
Five French open finals
Seven Wimbledon finals
Six Australian open finals

He is the greatest tennis player in history. If anyone knows how to come in a grand slam final, it's Roger Federer. See you in Wimbledon.

He is one fo the greatest. No doubt. In fact his name will crop up whenever the 'greatest fo all time' debate opens. But it is open to debate. He scores over Pete Sampras for making so many French Open finals and even winning one.But it is also true that for most of his peak years the competition was sparse. Also the fact that he was frequently upped by Nadal. No doubt,he would have won more French's if not for Nadal.I guess its impossible to compare players of different eras,so lets suffice to say that Federer is surely one of the greatest of all time and surely a top contender for that spot.

Great Player but not much challenged until Rafa came
by Rajiv Pandey on Jun 07, 2011 06:05 AM  | Hide replies

Its true that Roger is a great player, but during his era of tennis, he was not much challenged, only on rare occasions by Marat Safin and Roddick (Roddick anyway was not that good to challenge him). But now when players like Rafa and to some extent Novak have come, Roger is being challenged and losing frequently. Its also true that age is a factor with him, but against Rafa it was not as Rafa is crushing him even when Roger was young. Before Rafa, Roger was lucky enough to win so many grand slam tournaments, as no one out there to challenge.

he was too good for others..with rafa i think he has a mental block..its not about the ability its just a mental thing..even this final he missed 3-4 crucial shots ..that was enough for him to loose the match

That same Roddick who u think is not that good has defeated Rafa 3 times (its 3 - 6 ). Another player, Davydenko, playing at same timeframe, who Roger has beaten some 15 times, is 5 - 4 ahead of Rafa. Hewitt another great of this timeframe - Rafa is ahead 6-4 while Roger 17 - 8.
It is absolute BS to talk about competition. Both Roger and Rafa are great but as on date Roger is definitely greatest - only time will tell what happens next....

Federer is one of a kind!
by shiva on Jun 06, 2011 05:08 PM

Roger Federer is a great player and also a genuine human being. The world would be just different, a heaven on earth, if we had that attitude to life and work. He works, plays hard and what a gracious loser.

A once in a generation human being, great and gentle soul, humanitarian, and what not. No superlatives are enough to do justice to Federer.

I salute you Roger, but somehow I am a Nadal fan; earler Wilander, Edberg, Borg, Rosewall. Never, Mac-in-Row, Connors, Gilbert and the list goes on!

When you both both play, Roger and Nadal, there is only one winner, the game. You win all the time, even when you lose! You are Godsend! I pray that we have more souls like you in our midst. Otherwise, the world is not worth living!

What u say frnds about wimbledon, i thnk top-4 rank player wud reach in last-4 and then it wud be anyone game.
I will still go with Rafa, my next choice is Andy, he truly deserve an slam under his belt.
He is any way better human than Nova, Nova refuse to talk to press and sign autograph.
Even Fedex dint win everythng in his prime thn hw cum Noval can win it. I thought for a sometime about he wud go long way and atleat 10 GS, i m not sure now.

I feel A.Murray can win it this year. Rafa doesn't look in great touch this year.

I feel it's another Roger-Rafa final. If Federer could take out Novak on clay,he can surely do it on grass,he is serving exceedingly well and has a comfort zone on Centre Court.I think Rafa's the only one who can stop him at Wimbledon.

In my view all four Federer, Rafa, Novac and Murray have equal chances this year.

I think its Federer this year at Wimbledon. I expected a Federer_Djoko final. But they will be seeded in the same draw. Hence although Rafa is not in the best touch, he should reach the finals, if not halted by either Del Potro or Roddick. Then we have a cracker of a game. Anywat TENNIS Wins.

I think Novak is unfortunate to have been born in the same era as Federer and Nadal. How often have we seen him lose to either of them in GS semifinal or final.Even last US Open he played beyond himself to topple Federer and then Nadal took him out. This time Federer took him out.I fnot for these 2 I think Novak would have at least 5 GS under his belt by now.As for Wimbledon,I think there's a high possibility of a Roger-Rafa final again.Roger would be a stronger force there and has a good chance but I'd still back Rafa to win

How about Fedex badluck to face Nadal, i thnk he lost 6 finals in slam till now,
That itself shows the different between class of rafa/roger and others.

If Becker was not there, Lendl would have had multiple wimbledons. If Lendl was not there McEnroe would have taken a lot of US open titles. If McEnroe was not there Bjorn Borg would have not stopped at 11 titles and not retired early.. and if Borg wasn't there..Conners would have been the greatest player of 70s.. now you get the drift.. I think :)

Roger would have more of a chance at Wimbledon, having won there so many times and also because he has beaten Rafa there previously. But he would still need to play at his best and cut down on errors.

Honestly I don't see any chances for Federer to win any more GS. But want to see him retiring on a winning note. At least one more Wimbledon.

Yaar i know Nadal will find more difficulties at US open.
And in anyway, Wimbledon has its own charm yaar, no other slams can match Wimbledon, Nadal have two and it will be sweater to grab 3rd.

He has potential to become all time best but for it he has to do well for some years more. While I never denied that he is all time best clay court player.
