Rafa - the Great
by rajashi ghosh on Jun 06, 2011 03:30 PM  | Hide replies

Without comparing him with Federer, Sampras or any of the former greats, i can say that Nadal is the best thing that has happened to Nadal in recent years. Tennis had become a one-horse race with Federer winning everything. Nadal's emergence has made tennis interesting and has given the game a much-needed boost.

Nadal's game is very different to that of his peers. His strength is his body, his agility, his endurance, his relentless pursuit. He is not blessed with the kind of talent that say somebody like Federer but what he has is loads of tenacity and never-say die attitude. He is a role model for people who want to constantly push the envelope. From being known as a clay court specialist, he has enhanced his reputation to that of somebody who can win on any surface. Yes, he is lethal on clay but he is equally potent on grass and hard court.

What Rafa brings to the court is exuberance, passion, raw energy and above all the spirit of a fighter who just refuses to go down. Hats off.

U r absolutely spot on and almost said what i wanted too.
Apart for making it competative, he has change the way of playing tennis alot as well.
Remember Noval said few months back, Nadal inspired us by showing how to fight for single points, he desnt beleive in getting cheap points and work extreme hard for through out the match, by following that, Noval has achvd so much in this year, for me this is also one of reason.
Correct me if i m wrong frnds...

I think this victory will do a lot for Rafa's confidence and morale before Wimbledon. He will surely be pumped up by this win.I still feel he's not his usual self, and was very tentative in the final. In only one game, the semis v/s Murray, did we see the real Rafa.In most of the other games he was less than 100%.Less than 1005 may be enough for the Federers but he needs more to take out others like Novak,Del Potro etc.It amuses me that Rafa's no.1 ranking is under threat..the guy has won 4 of the last 5 Grand Slam titles, and his ranking is in threat...hilarious!!

Nerves
by junooni qatil on Jun 06, 2011 02:30 PM

Once again we were witness to the nerves of fedex spread all over the centre court. He may never overcome this mental block against Rafa. Just have a look at the no. of unforced errors in the match yesterday. Can we ever hope to see Roja at his best against Rafa. Although this time it was still better than the previous encounters. I must say that "one is the king of clay" and the other is "God of tennis but with a feet of clay"

We do not thnk of replying ur non sense.
You r right only, if Nadal can do it at US open y dint do it 2005-2008 and stop Fedex.
Grow up man and accept the defeat, learn to b realistic.
Y u have all the blame against Nadal only, y u have not noticed Noval, how come suddenly his back hand and fore hand become so powerful.
How come suddenly Fedex back hand started working in french open when it wasnt working from last two years.
How come Andy was running like bolt after twisting his ankle so badly.
Will all of them are using drugs ???
Dude, with drugs u get power on temporary basis if u know, u wont get class.
here is another example for u.
Tendulkar was almost finsh at around 2007, look at his stats in last 3-4 years, he is playing better than ever, everyone thought including us that ponting will surpass Sachin, look at where he left behind.
Its all will and fighting ability, havnt u seen yesterday how Fedex scrumbled when he was down in 2nd set, absolutely opposite to Nadal when he was down in first set.
U talking about genuine sportsperson who himself is not an genuine human to start with.
To understand gud thng u need a gud mind not an ill mind like u who always use to abuse people when do not have anyhtng to say.
I know u will do the same again here.

completely agree with you. Rafael Nadal alone can not be singled out. Steroids was, is and will continue to be controversial but nobody can deny that steroids does make one mentally and physically stronger (saying this out of personal experience) plus the fact that there have been so many technological and scientific advancements that it is at many times impossible to detect the use of steroids (ask professional body builders).

Bango...the problem with Bango Tango is that immediately after he was born, the nurse dropped him on his head leading to severe brain injury and leaving him handicapped for life.He needs our sympathy and support and not abuse.

Even the most die hard fans of Federer, including the self styled paragon of tennis knowledge(my clone),the lunatic conspiracy theorist(Bango Tango) and the plain dumb Vasudevan,Shiva MS,Rajesh etc didnt expect Federer to win.It was a foregone conclusion all the way.Credit to Federer for keeping it tight.BUt if you fancy yourself the 'GOAT',you must learn after so many years of playing that you simply DONT give Rafa any chances when your playing him, and you MUST take your chances and even half chances if you want to beat him.I've never seen a more tentative and tense looking Rafa,he was surely holding it back, not going for the outright winners, and looked like something was bothering him.Not a good sign for the grass court season.Anyway,Vamos Rafa, you showed that you OWN Federer.

As I had predicted, the max Fedex could do was win a set.Fedex played well, better than most thought he would be able to.But in the end he was just not good enough.Rafa is the king, forever. He silenced all his critics oince more,(experts and also pseudoexperts like my clone). But I am not convinced he is at his best.He seemed strangely subdued and was not going at full throttle, seemed undecided at some times in the game.Less than 1005 may be enough to beat the Federers, but against more tough competition like the red hot Djoko,Murray,Del Potro etc Rafa needs to elevate his game a bit.

You r right as well, so we have predicted about fedex game against Nadal.
fedex 100% may not b enough to beat Nadal at Rolland garros.
Nadal never look like loosing yesterday.
Do not worry, he will right back for wimbledon, it was so compulsary for him to win here, now with french open in pocket, i expect full of confidenct Rafa in London.

Rafa himself admitted Roger as the greatest tennis player in the history, but there will be always a question mark looming above him that all through out their encounters in clay why roger was unable to defeat Nadal and why the face to face encounter nadal is leading .....technically roger is in a class of him where no one can be compared to him but when it comes to self belief Nadal you are the greatest fighter .......

Very very ture accept one point.
Rafa has not admitted this now but at several time.
Fedex will b called great even if he do not beat Nadal at Paris, u can nt raise question mark on great like Fedex for just not able to win against one person, Mind u, he doesnt not play badly on clay as people imagine, Nadal have reached 6 final in Paris where Fedex have reached 5, this is no less achvmnt by any mean.
According to me its self believe and mentally supremacy y Nadal topple fedex so many time.
Simply like Dhoni & Yuvraj in Indian Team.
Dhoni has no class against Yuvi but when it comes to performance on field, Yuvi do not stand.

I think Federer had chances in 1st set where he was leading by 5-2 and got a set point too. It could be a 5 setters but in favour of Nadal.

Yeah thats what i thnk, Fedex never look like winning the match even when he was front, Nadal was so focussed when was behind in first set but look at fedex, it was look alike he wanted to finish and loose 2nd set when he was behind.

i think its not fare to count it as unforced eror when Nadal actualy forced to make eror by his lob and top spin, his return bounce was at chest hieght some time and fedex return to net and in stats its counted unforced eror.
What u say...
