For everyone still hung up with Nadal being an “all-court” champion, GOAT:
Lets look at Nadal’s BEST year, 2010:
Overall match record - 72-10 (not even close to Federer’s best years) - 22-0 on clay, 50-10 outside of clay.
Total slams - 10, 6 on clay.
Total titles - 46, 32 on clay.
Overall match record 515-107 - 227-18 on clay, 288-89 outside of clay.
His success is VERY LARGELY dependent on clay. Those are the FACTS.

Nadal is perhaps the BEST clay courter in history, who is pretty good on other sufaces too. BUt to be GOAT, you have to be more than “pretty good” on all surfaces..

A premature message
by lambawalla (View MyPage) on Jun 05, 2011 10:16 PM | Hide replies

This message is premature, as the match is still going on. I am assuming that Nadal has already won.
I am no expert on Tennis as some guys here claim to be. I know such experts are going to blame it on Clay Court where Nadal seems to reign supreme. But it is not the Court alone. Nadal's fighting spirit, his superior physical fitness, his never give up attitude, and his aggressive intent are at least as much responsible for this result as the Red Clay.
Nadal's fighting spirit is never more in evidence than on Break Points. Federer was up 40-0 in the first game of the fourth set, but he failed to win it. Federer had no chance against Nadal.
And on a Technical note, Nadal may not be having the biggest serve in the game, but his Service is the most difficult to pick.

Awesome display of tennis by legend federer
by HUSSAIN MITHANI on Jun 06, 2011 03:17 AM  | Hide replies

what a performance by federer. He really gave it to nadal and would have won if he didn't have so many unforced errors. I can't even see nadal playing this well at the age of 30. Nadal's tennis play seems to be going down now. He is not playing as well as last year. He is not winning matches as easily as he used to before on clay. This is the beginning of an end for nadal. I don't even see nadal winning the Wimbledon. With the french open final, Federer proves he still has it in him to win another grand slam and will do it. It's only a matter of time and I can see federer playing for another 5 years. At the age of 30, he can match and defeat players in their 20's. Excellent tennis federer. Keep it up man! You are the greatest and the tennis world knows it.

He's not winning matches easily and still continues to win Grand Slams. Well, you can't write off Nadal. That's precisely what critics did when he lost to Soderling in the French Open in 2009 and had a forgettable 2009 thanks to injuries.

But we all know whate he did in 2010, isn't it? He is only 25 and at the peak of his physical prowess. He needs to be mindful of the threat that Novak Djokovic poses. But otherwise, he is doing exceptionally well.

U really said what hussain deserve, he is giving all the credit to Fedex for playing so well after loosing the final which he actually deserve.
But do not have a single word of praise for winner.
He said fedex is greatest which actually he is and entire world knows as he claim, but do not know what fedex said about Nadal about deserving winner and all time greatest atleast on clay.

Nadal will surely be counted as the best player in tennis history
by Mind Releams on Jun 06, 2011 01:01 AM  | Hide replies

Congrats to Nadal for winning another Grand Slam. He now has 10 titles and soon will surpass Federer's count of 16. It seems difficult that Federer will add more titles to his tally, he may be able to add one or two more but he will have to work really hard for that.
Going by the current form only Djokovic seems to be posing some formidable challenge to Nadal but it remains to be seen whether he can be consistent on a regular basis.
What can I say about Federer? No doubt he is a great player, his record speaks for himself but his psyche has been so badly dented by Nadal that he may never be able to win against Nadal in a Grand Slam final, though he may be able to win one or two ATP level tournament against him. In a Grand Slam final I don't know what happens to him. After few good games he suddenly seems to starts making lots of unforced errors and ultimately loose the match, as if some hypnotic message starts playing in his head saying "you have to loose this match or else...."

My prediction for Wimbledon, it would be either Nadal or Djokovic (if his current form was not a fluke)

Novak does not have a good serve and volley game that is needed to win on Wimbledon grass and never reached finals at Wimbledon before. Federer who is a good serve and volleyer and Murray the local boy has better chances at Wimby than Djokovic.

As a Rafa fan, I expect Rafa to win Wimbledon as Rafa is a complete player on all surfaces - Clay, Grass and Hard.

Nadal has 10 majors. 60% of them have come at the French Open. Clay is a more than legitimate surface, but Federer has won multiple times at every major except the French. Nadal has won multiple times ONLY at the French and SW19 and how can you say he’s a complete player on all surfaces!!!??

I hate the gym. I don’t spend much time in there and I never have done – I just don’t see why. I only ever run when there’s some point to it – say, if it’s in a game of tennis. I do a lot of aerobics in the pre-season period, but after that I keep fit by playing in tournaments."
- Rafael Nadal - negating months of arguments from his supporters that his muscles were from hard work in the gym (don't worry, they found new reasons).

With some help from the French Open spike, THASP(tennis has a steroid problem) has now garnered over a half million hits! The management would like to offer a special thanks to Rafael Nadal, Samantha Stosur, Serena Williams, Francesca Schiavone and Gael Monfils for their help in making this blog what it is.

I am a federer fan...but now it seems it is impossible to beat rafa here and may be in any surface by federer...lets wait and see what happens in future...nadal may win 10/12 RG trophies..unless novak or anybody stops him...Federer cannot stop him.. anyway congrats to rafa..

Even after retirement Federer will always feel that he is not able to beat one man...thats true..

But still love to be a Fedex fan..

Fedex played some good tennis but he blew all his chances.I've never seen Rafa play as sub par as he did today, and if Fedex couldn't beat him today, rest assured he never will be able to.He should have easily closed out the first set and kept the pressure up,but he blew it when it mattered most.

yes fedex should have won the first set but ...he might have lost the match...donno...what would have happened...but even after the third set Nadal had too much energy left in him..Fedex cannot match that..too bad for a great champion like him losing to a single player so many times...we fedex fans are feeling so bad..after each match

There is no need to feel bad. Both players are great ambassadors of the sport and are great friends apart from rivals. They play each other with maximum intensity but have great respect for each other.Nadal is just too mentally strong and determied, and he pounces on any chink in Fedex's armour.
