how can a nation-china produce tennis champions,that too a grand slam winner. india which considers itself to be an asian super power in tennis,has not had ever a singles grand slam or even an ATP1000/ATP500 tournament winner. apart from ramanathan krishnan who way back in 1961 & 1962(when only amateurs were allowed to participate) reached the semis of wimbledon, we have not seen any other indian repeat his performance in singles event in grand slams or the above strata of ATP events.china a nation which did not have a single male/female player in the tennis horizon 12 years back, has done astonishly well with real sincere hard work, in making such rapid progess. i hope indian tennis stars get the message.

Mr Biswanath, when did u start watching tennis? Ramesh Krishnan who way back in 1960-61...dear, do u know his DOB? He borned in 1961, he was 2 times qtr finalist during 80s, and I still remember when I was a 5yrs kid he through India into Davis cup final.
Yes, China has produced this tennis star who really a great player. The difference is in India, if someone gets a little success, media and people make him/her overnight super star, who practically just an avg. Same thing goes for our tennis players.. Sania who never crossed 3rd round in a grand slam, media potray her like 5 times grand slam winner, and the result is infront of you..
Hope, someone will born be a real star not like these fakes who media gives so much important..

Davis cup final was in 1987-88.. i still remember as a 5ys kid watching on DD...very well though i did not know abt tennis nor how the score board changes..
Li Na has won French Open , that IS GREAT and congrats to her, BUT as far as First Grand Slam by Women is concerned, Sania has Won Australian Open in 2009. In 2006-2007 Season Sania was Leading Li Na in World ranking and was Considered better player in Asia But Sania is NOW Slightly trailing Li Na, mainly because Family resposibilities after Marriage.
li na's victory has made most of the elite indians sulk,as this class identifies itself with anglo-saxon uk & usa. mongol china,japan,korea are considered inferior to this class of indians. it has been seen that india's english media(print & electronic)gives more importance to andy murray(uk),andy roddick(usa) & hewitt(australia)than federer,nadal or djokovic.

Congrats to Li for becoming the first chinese to win a Grand Slam. This is only the beginning of things to come and goes to show that if you work hard and improve your technique, you can be the best in the world.
