Odafa makes a wrong choice.

He will lose his scoring prowess, joining a loser like Bagan. He shud have joined EB or remained in Goa.

I fully agree with you Mr. Dennis Christie. Whatever fame and recognition Odafe earned in Goa will be nought with Mohun Bagan. Odafe was treated like a king at Churchill Brothers. His word was a command and because of this Churchill Brothers lost good coaches and officials including Karim Bencherifa. No doubt, Odafe was a great footballer but it was in Goa that he became known as the greatest. When he played in Kolkotta, before coming to Goa, he was a struggling player. I don't think, he will get the same type of treatment as he got in Goa. In Kolkatta, he will have to live up to the expectations of the crazy soccer fans and the officials of Mohun Bagan who are mad about football and about victory. Will Odafe be able to satiate the thirst of the Mohun Bagan fans and officials who will be paying so much for his prowess and victories. We hope he will be able to deliver in the same manner as he did in Goa with Churchill Brothers. I still feel that Odafe has made a mistake of joining Mohun Bagan unless Mohun Bagan truly recognise his worth and remember that he is also a human being who can fail sometimes. See what Mohun Bagan did to their previous coach, Karim Bencherifa, a highly successful and talented coach was sacked midway. I hope the same fate does not behold Odafe. All the very best Odafe. We the soccer fans of Goa football are grateful to you for all the accolades you won for Churchill Brothers. - Socorro Mascarenhas, Mira Road, Goa

No Live Telecast of I League and other soccer matches.
by socorro mascarenhas on Jun 02, 2011 11:28 AM  | Hide replies

The I-League is over and the matches were well played but it was unfortunate for the Mumbaikars that we could not see a single match be it at the venue or Live on TV. The home venue for Mumbaikars was shifted from Cooperage to Kolhapur thus depriving us of going to the stadium and watching the matches. The biggest blow and setback was that none of the I-League matches were telecast live. I failed to understand why such a prestigious event was not telecast live? What were the bosses of Indian football and organisers doing by depriving live telecast. I understand that not a single match was telecast live, be in Mumbai, Goa, Kolkatta or elsewhere in India. Futhermore, the AFC Cup matches involving Dempo and East Bengal were also not telecast live. The AIFF and the organisers owe an explanation to the soccer fans in India for depriving us of the live matches. How can India progress in soccer if such is the attitude of the bosses who are controlling Indian Football. It is a crying shame that the world's most lovable and popular game, soccer, is treated in such a way. The Santosh Trophy also lost all its charm this year as top players of the country were not playing. The organisers should have waited until the I League was over so that top players of the state could take part. It is a sorry state of affair and hope that better sense prevails and such type of lack lustre attitude is not deployed for the betterment of Indian soccer.

Pathetic state of football in India
by sam on Jun 02, 2011 01:42 AM  | Hide replies

Indian football is sufferring endlessly . . .
1. Lack of visionaries and charismatic leaders in management
2. Presence of aged Babus and politicians in local body and everywhere else
3. Poor reward and traetment for players resulting in low self esteem and no pride (as compared to cricketers).

Indian football need young managers who market the game aggressively and rope in funds from corporate houses and work extensively with the media and the broadcasting agencies. There needs to be a lot of advertisement aof the sport and the players. And all of this should be backed up by sponsorship oif teams, the kits and tournaments at home and abroad.

There should be a great professional earning opportunity for all those involved to craete motivation amongst players and football lovers alike. Everyone shouls be compelledto talk about football in the same breath as cricket. Players need to be idolised and made to feel like stars.

Indian football and Pakistan cricket are sailing in the same boat. There is lot of talent in the depths of the country. But poor management, corruption and poor reward of the players is killing the sport. The players are just not motivated to play the game with respect and pride due to lack of trust and faith in the power hungry management. The players see no future in trying that extra bit in performing for glory as they see no future in it for themselves.

There is not a single Indian driver in Formula 1. How long have Indians followed Formula 1 compared to football? What is India's success in Formula 1 as compared to football? How many young people want to or can possibly ever take part in Formula 1? Yet Indians are spending millions of bucks on the sport and the young generation is watching it with great excitement all around. Its the money spent on the sport, the marketing, the edvertisement, the glamour associated with the sport. People involved in Formula 1 make money and are motivated. They see a present and afuture in it for themselves. Someone needs to create that for Indian football too. Yes, there would be stories of corruption even then, but the sport would be bigger than everything else. It will be alive!!!
