I wonder if it is a little like buying shares, some are "undervalued" and some are "overpriced". Some are new issues, some proven performers and a few are "risky" buys.
A club, I feel, should try planning out well and invest in short and long term measures. Finances are critical and heavy spending cannot be forever. At some point, the painful process of identifying and grooming young talent, without the club becoming a long term shop for finished products- like Ajax have sadly become, must begin. Yet, short term expectations of stakeholders must be met.
Balancing the two objectives, while growing the club's brand image across the world, is a very tough task.
