FIRST BRING RTI TO BCCI AND REST WITH COURT'S ASSISTANCE
by damodaran mohan on Sep 01, 2011 05:44 PM

People have all sympathy for the Minister but he must be too naive to believe that his Bill would be accepted by the powerful vested interests in the cabinet having clear conflict of interests.People like Sharad Pawar, Deshmukh,PPatel,FAbdullah and others are not going to part with the stranglehold all that easily. You just can't jump from a zero to hundred level in one go.It has to be gradual and Mr.Maken instead of trying to dictate and control should give them broad guide lines for self regulation. In the first stage he should try only for making RTI applicable to all including BCCI.Once RTI becomes applicable, accountability and transparency would come auto matically and the democratisation of the sports bodies will also start happening. For bringing RTI to BCCI Mr. Maken should take help of courts.

BCCI under RTI
by ashish upadhyaya on Sep 01, 2011 10:27 AM

If BCCI can not come under RTI act, then this team should not be termed as Indian Team , it should be BCCI team. But I agree that it should not be under Govt, else cricket will also be a dead sport in India like other.

Mr. Maken is Right
by Chiddu Roberto on Aug 31, 2011 10:22 PM

The sports minister Mr. Ajay maken is on the right path for having dared Mr. Pawar & Co. who was instrumental in sabotaging the progressive sports Bill to protect the financial irregularities and acts of omission of BCCI and its brain child IPL.

BCCI, gets land for cricket stadium from state govts on subsidised rates, but its brain child IPL jamboree is not willing to pay entertainment tax to state govts out its earning. IPL has not paid Enertainement tax to Maharashtra Govt till date becoz of Mr. Pawar. Now BCCI says its not taking any money from any govt to run its affairs.

BCCI must be brought under RTI under all circumstances and should not become a fiefdom of some cabal and if BCCI is to be belived that its working is bonafide, then why it should be scared to come under RTI.

People, just like they gave unstinted support to shri. Anna, must also support Mr. Ajay maken for standing firm against some vested feudal elements of BCCI, who are running the affairs of national cricket without any transperancy and accountability in its financial matters.

Way to go Mr Waken. I think the bill really helps all the Indian Sports barring cricket. But, I wonder how you really did manage to get to that ministerial position under unbelievably corrupt congress government. What ever it is.. this is a good move

I agree with Maken

We have a sports minister who is sticking his neck out and taking the bull (i.e. BCCI) by the horns. He should be lauded, not crticised.
Sharad Pawar, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Farooq Abdullah, C.P.Joshi and Praful Patel should not be sitting or be members of the cabinet which is discussing this bill as it involves conflict of interest. If this bill becomes an act, their personal interest will be affected. All Maken is asking is for the BCCI to come under RTI act and fix tenures and ages of Sports Federation members.By advocating that Sports federations should have at least 25% members from former athletes he will ensure that past athletes are not forgotten but rewarded. We have a scenario here where these very politicians holding many post and reaping benefits from all quarters. I hope better sense prevails and this bill is passed. I wish Maken all the best.

Sir,

Politics and Cricket in the truest sense are different.

We expected junior or middle level organizers to pocket something during the CWG but the final figures which went down the drain, and not to mention the national shame, was not expected.

SCAMS
by bidhan gupta on Aug 31, 2011 09:04 PM

The BCCI -IPL & Lalit Modi included - may have more scams than CWG as long as we have non-cricketers performing without any interest in the game. Such people will immediately resign if the posts which they hold is made honorary & without any payment. Their true love for the game will be exposed in a jiffy.
