Commonwealth

The whole concept of commonwealth countries is obsolete and redundant. Its just a way of Britain holding on to imperial nostalgia. We should opt out of useless group

Such a CWG committee must be prosecuted under POTA (no bails) for defaming INDIA before the world.

It is a fact that there is corruption everywhere in everything in INDIA, but at least
cut loose on such things once in a while before the world.

Ridiculous CWG committee,

Nobody knows as to how much out of the 6 billion rupees allocated for CWG has gone into the pockets of Kalmadi and his gang.

And no one will know either. Because people who are supposed to investigate and report (like govt. officials, investigators, media etc.) have themselves made money.

Insufficient planning
by Joel martins on Sep 24, 2010 04:43 PM  | Hide replies

When any country organises any international sports event, they make lots of profit out of it. But in India, it is not the case. Here we always face losses.
I remember when IPL II was organised in South Africa, SA cricket board made tremendous profits. But when IPL III was organised in India (where cricket following is like nowhere else) we ended up earning peanuts nuts (?????).
This only proves that our officials are either corrupt or are incapable of orgnising event of such magnitude.

I am not sure who made losses during IPL (but for the spectators, if at all we look at the expenses incurred at the stadia..).

Considerable improvements?
by SR Hari on Sep 24, 2010 04:33 PM  | Hide replies

This chap till recently criticizing the arran gements (though he was party to many a decision and should have been held equally responsible along with Kalmadi for all the fiasco)sough an appointment with PM of the nation as though the whole of India is squarely responsible for EVERYTHING.

Being snubbed by the PM and the PMO, he must have realised where he stands and must be trying to make things look good now.

I am not sure how much improvement had taken place in the last 2-3 days. Let this phirangis keep their mouths shut, do their jobs and get out. No point in creating big noise and highlighting corruption. After all, Canada also wanted to give US $ 70,000 to each of the 72 countries to win the bid !!!

India media has failed Indians!
by Das on Sep 24, 2010 04:13 PM  | Hide replies

It can be seen that Indian media, likes of NDTV, TOI and Hindustan times, has gone full throttle to rescue the Congress image by putting positive spin on a scandal marred by massive corruption, gross inefficiency and national humiliation. Despite the magnitude of the scandal and obvious negative ramification, the mdia never even mentioned let alone highlight the most pertinent facts, for instance, the fact that Suresh Kalmadi is Sonia Gandhi’s close confidante and appointments and hiring and firing at the end rests with her and her alone. The role of media in any democracy is to inform the public, to hold executive to account and expose corruption, maladministration and inefficiency. Without honest, robust and unbiased media, democracies become dysfunctional. It is quite clear Indian elite media has been deliberately misleading the public and therefore subverting Indian democracies for it own selfish ends.

well said my love!!! But isn't it the tendency of the media to become patriotic at the last minute. Someone once said and I quote " Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Unquote. Well said and aptl describes the situation today. Must be that the commonwealth organising chaps have distributed the moolah all around, afterall it "common wealth"

First thing first. Olympic village is to the best standards of the way Indians live in Delhi.
Second: Why did this white commonwealth nations come so early?
Third: They are only making noise because West as a whole now is intimidated and want to make a collective stand so that future events dont go to developing nations.
Fourth: No Arati. Give them what they give us. A car rental/taxi phone number. A address to reach. And schedule calendar. Maps and venue adress

Remeber. When Olympics happened in China they complained about being to tight security and human rights violation.
When FIFA world cup happened in in South Africa they complained about law and order and slums.
Our foolish media just follwos what BBC forces upon them.
