Real CWG
by Aum Company on Sep 24, 2010 12:10 PM

Games are only an appendage to the CWG that has beautifully served the real purpose of kickbacks e.g. a roll of toilet paper for Rs 1500 vs the free market value of Rs 13.

Thank God
by anuradhakumari on Sep 24, 2010 09:16 AM

If any great leader of BIHAR would have been involved in CWGames, all of BIHAR would have been made a laughing stock along with their great and precious leaders..........
Thank God! No BIHAR Leaders are involved.....

The ground reality is that, no great development work (in India) sees the day without involvement/ active participation of UP, BIHAR Engineers, Contractors and Workers

The whole CWG saga has one moral ----- corruption (at all levels) is acceptable in INDIA (and in most of the cases, the alleged mastermind, king pins of famous scandals etc. are never caught)!

JAI HIND!

It's all about execution
by Sutapa Acharjee on Sep 24, 2010 07:53 AM

I think we are all missing the point here. Instead of questioning the why or how of CWG, we should realize that this represents a very big failure on our part. Once we had taken on the task, we should have executed it to perfection. Specially in the backdrop of the Beijing Olympics, which were executed with such precision and perfection that it was seen as an event announcing the arrival of China as a superpower on the global scene. The Chinese followed it up by getting the maximum gold medals as well. We on the other hand whine and moan to treated at par with China, yet everything we do says we don't deserve to be in the same league as China. In the future if we ever bid for Olympics, we will be laughed at. It just reinforces the "slumdog millionaire" version of India. All the talk of Congress or BJP or XYZ or whoever being responsible for this is irrelevant. For the world when words like "filthy" and "uninhabitable" are used in connection with India, it tars all of us with the same brush. It is extremely sad and frustrating. We can talk all we want about our so called progress, yet we are still going to be seen as incompetent and corrupt. We as Indians need to take this as a lesson, and vow never to let something like this ever happen again.

by k raikwar on Sep 24, 2010 07:50 AM

i can make a better bridge for less than 10 lakhs !
where did the cwg hide the ten crore ! 50 years plus and attitude of politician is pathetic, no morals, no nationalism, these guys are operating just like the italian mafia of the 50's and 60's. The scam money and records shall vanish before even the CBI can find it. It all part of the old games played !
we need to run a background check on the cwg board - the band wagon of contractors and middle men ! how much money has gone out of India. All Fera and fema nodal agencies, are only waiting to till somebody who will blow the whistle is FOUND DEAD !

An Appeal
by Ravinder Malhotra on Sep 24, 2010 07:48 AM

Extracts of an appeal by Mr. Chetan Bhagat:

I am not going to harp on about how messed up the Commonwealth Games are. Enough has been written. The CWG 2010 is, by far, the biggest and most blatant, exercise in corruption in independent India's history.

In the middle of all this, there will be propaganda campaigns to 'save India's image' and get the Games done somehow. People will be expected to support the event - after all, the pride of India is at stake. The great Indian youth will be called upon to fill stadiums and add energy to the event.

All Indians have been robbed at the same time. Add to that the fact that the government is desperate to save face. Now is when we can get them. And the way to do it is simply what the father of our nation pioneered in his time - NON CO-OPERATION. Yes, and I've deliberated long before saying this - do not watch these Games. Do not go to the venues. Do not watch them on TV. You cannot become a cheerleader to an exercise in cheating.

Just as Gandhiji figured, the oppressor can oppress us; it cannot make us cooperate. Brand ambassadors lending their names to these Games should think twice before lending their image to cover up corruption.

The Indian people have been exploited enough, but to expect us to smile through it is a bit much. If they can walk out of Parliament, we can walk out of stadiums !

MMS is no different,
by RKN on Sep 24, 2010 07:17 AM  | Hide replies

just like any other indian, he is reactive rather than proactive. Instead of conducting this high-level sports tournament, they should have build 10 sports complexes in different parts of the country would have made indian sporting faculty stronger. I hope and I wish for good no-issue games and hope it to be a big success.

yep. That is what he is. We have a hobby of making the so called pundits as PMs and the so called great batsmen as captains in cricket. Leadership is a different animal.

by julian dasan on Sep 24, 2010 05:53 AM

The first photos have emerged of the accommodation for athletes at the Commonwealth Games in India.

The images, leaked to the BBC by an unnamed member of a national delegation, are the first illustrations of the conditions that so shocked officials who recently arrived at the athletes' village in Delhi.

The photos show the conditions that were described by the Commonwealth Games Federation as "filthy", "uninhabitable" and "seriously compromised".

The biggest losers in this CWG fiasco are the terrorists. Why? B'cos the CWG is so badly managed that even the terrorists would leave it alone. One less target to think of!!!
