Well done Nadal. Even as lot of Nadal fans are heaping praise on him, they are also taking pot shots at Federer and his fans. This is unfair. To put the record straight, this is the first time Nadal has won three slams in a single calendar year. Federer has done it thrice - 2004, 2006 and 2007. Nadal fans say that Nadal has won three consecutive slams this year (French, Wimby and US Open). Federer did it twice - 2004 Wimby, US Open and 2005 Australian Open and repeated the sequence in 2006-07. Federer has 5 year end Masters and Nadal has none. Yes, Nadal has age on his side and may surpass Federer, but certainly Federer as on date deserves more credit and the cloak of greatness for his achievements vis-a-vis every contemporary Tennis player, including Nadal. As for Nadal fans saying Federer won French Open and Wimby in 2009, because Nadal was injured, please understand staying fit enough to compete in every Grandslam is in itself a great achievement. It is a tribute to Federer's greatness that he has stayed fit and competed in every grandslam without break and there are no ifs and buts here. If Nadal was injured, it simply means he did not take care of his body and paid the price. If he is fit now and continues to be fit in the coming years to surpass Federer, let us hail King Nadal without demeaning the achievements of Federer!

You are right Abhijit Nair. The sequence is: 2005 Wimby and US Open and 2006 Australian Open and 2006 Wimby and US Open and 2007 Australian Open. Thus, he has done 3 consecutive Slams twice. However, I stand corrected with regard to the correct sequence!

Fedex NEVER won 3 consecutive slams in the SAME calendar year...that's the point,Solomon. That's mainly because he was always having trouble not winning the French. He was a beaten finalist there many times which is itself not a mean achievement. And he was losing to the best claycourt player ever...Rafa Nadal.I agree that Fedex should not be demeaned. However, also take a look at some of the Fedex fans here like my clone,Shiva MS,Vasudevan,Bango Tango etc who are now calling Rafa a cheat and drug abuser, just becuase he has shattered their hopes of a Fedex win.And by winning the US Open,he has shut the omouths of the ignorant among the tennis community.....FOREVER!!Vamos Rafa, and of course Fedex is surely one of the greatest tennis players EVER.

FYI, The above sentence has been taken from the article above.
It is BORG and then Lendl...no body can match their Games... may be Lendl has not won Wimbledon.. But still I consider him just below Borg and above all others.
Spaniards seem to be on top of the world in the sports arena this year! Rafal Nadal (Wimbledon, French Open, US Open tennis winner), Fernando Alonso (Formula 1 racing GP winner), Alberto Contador (Tour de France Cycling winner) Spanish football team (World Cup winners)...... Sports and sporting events are given good importance in Spain!

Why can't be a player who consitently beats BEST EVEr player and wins all the majors and at very young age- be "among" greatest players of all time
You seem to be a federer fan like me but should be fair to Nadal.... He is not better than Federe but among the greates...
When Federer beat Sampras at Wimbledon...there were arguments of this kind....but we can count Federers days at being "The best"...forget about these rankings
RAFA lost to SODERLING and paved way for FEDEX to win the FRENCH OPEN,likewise FEDEX lost to DJOKOVICH and helped RAFA to win the US OPEN!! CLEVER CHAMPS helping each other for the glory! this is NEW AGE TENNIS AT ITS BETS sorry BEST!!!

Nadal is YET to Win " Tennis Master's Cup". Very few Rafa Fans may be knowing about "Tenis masters Cup.( Since he has NOT won it ) It is an annual Tournament held in November where "TOP Eight" players compete in round robin format. The WORD "TOP" is important and ...... Federer has WON it 4 times. We only talk about Grand Slams, Tennis Masters Cup is AT PAR with G.Slam. Federer by this logic has 20 Slams ( Equivalant ) Nadal has 10 ( 9 slams Plus 1 Olympic ). Nadal is "Half Federer" but we may see Full Federer in coming years. K.D Narang, SantaCruz- Bombay

Veera dharan.... HOW can Narang's comments look Arrogant? He is only telling statistical reality . He( Narang) has added that " "we may see Full Federer in coming years" That is sufficient respect for Nadal.

Point well taken. But my dear I have been following tennis since 1972. I have followed the achievements of various tennis legends who have won six or more GS tournaments, like Newcombe, Rosewall, Stan Smith, Connors, Borg, McNroe, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Agassi, Sampras, Lendl or Jim Courier. If you follow the great seventies, eighties and nineites, you will see that at all the point of time, atleast four legends were competing with each other. There were great tennis rivalries. But the advantage of Federrer, was the fact that during the first five years of his dominance there were not a single legendary player excluding him. If you look at his statistics, you will find that he has won most of his GS titles by defeating various players at various times. Only once did he defeat a legend named Agassi at the the 2003 US open when Agassi was 35 years old and that too in five sets. Only in the later half of his career Nadal came into limelight and everybody knows hs record against Nadal. It is 7 win vs 14 defeats all time and 2 wins vs 5 defeats in GS tournament. Whereas Nadal in his lifetime has one nine Grand Slams out of which five have come by defeating Federrer who is defineitely a legend. Since age is in Nadal's favour, he will braek all records. But, yes he definitely need not prove any further that he is the greatest in the open era beating Borg, Sampras and Federrer

Its easy to say that there were no legends around when Federrer won those GS, but my view to this is that Federrer made his opponents like Hewitt, Roddick look mediocre by raising his own game to such levels.

federer is just a product of bad players at his time... i still think sampras is the best player of all time so wat he didnt won french...but tennis greats are always measured by the amount of titles they win in wimbledon and us open... and i think sampras is the greatest of all...
game is definitely improving and the most noticeable difference was his serve. The commentators were appreciating the same thing all the time and why not he's definitely added that much needed speed in his serve.
The only thing I think he needs to improve on is to flatten out his forehands/backhands more often. That will give him more winners (although I do admit that can lead to more unforced errors) but hes such a good player he has the least no. of unforced errors compared to other players.. Am sure he knows that and hopefully will improve on it:)
Nadal is adamant Roger Federer deserves the accolade because of his 16 grand slam titles but the jury is still out after the Spaniard conquered New York.
this shows, rafa is not only a tennis icon, he is also such a wonderful and humble personality.
am sure he will beat fedex record of slams, but, even if he doesnt, he will be the greatest..hope even the fedex fans agree..

Feddie is definitely not as humble as Nadal......and he is a much worse loser than Nadal.....I don't think I need to give instances supporting my statements...the whole world knows them....

by veerapuram dharan on Sep 14, 2010 12:32 PM
fedex is a cry baby..whole world have watched it when he lost to rafa in wimbledon finals.hence, its not just the number of slams u decide on the greatness, but with ur on field behaviour..
Re: Re: Re: Re: kindly note
by veerapuram dharan on Sep 14, 2010 12:47 PM
well, am trying to convey a simple opinion about a great. no doubt even fedex is great. but, when it comes to who is greatest, even my fav stefan edberg comes close to it..but, in modern day, rafa has all the qualities..fedex was arrogant that as long as he is alive, no one could rule him in wimbledon, in came rafa, conquered and gave fedex one of the fitting reply ever seen recently..
