SILIGURI - Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday announced out-of-turn promotion and a cash award of Rs.10 lakh for Sushil Kumar, who Sunday became the first Indian wrestler to win a gold medal at the World Championship.
“We are proud of Sushil Kumar. He has made India proud. And the best thing is that he is an employee of Indian railways. Indian Railways is proud to have such a family member.. We have decided to give him a cash award of Rs.10 lakh and an out-of-turn promotion,” Banerjee said at a function at New Jalpaiguri near here..
I read this news in newspaper this morning. And I was hoping to read it here in details but there were none except for the cricket news. Dear rediff, there are other people too who loves other sports and are proud of India's achievements in other sports.

forget that, even today on major new channel while they were narrating sushil's triumph, the visuals shown were of olympics where he stood 3rd.poor state of affairs.
Hearty congrats and for lifting another monkey off India's back. I hope this is just another beginning and there will be more golden chapters in Indian sports future (other than cricket of course)
