Its heartening to read more and more Indian companies are getting in the global market. Tata acquiring Jaguar, Mallya getting on with Force India on the F1 circuit and now Venky's on with Blackburn. I have been working outside India for a long time now-- but as my boss (he is not an Indian) rightly said-- "Hate an Indian or like him but definitely the world cannot ignore an Indian at the moment" does make sense. Kudos to Venky's. Though Blackburn is not a big team but I personally admire Big Sam (Allardyce) as a Manager. So hope Venky's bring in a Chelsea or man City kind of change. Good Luck venky's-- keep the Tricolor flying high.
Venky's would have done well if they had acquired some business related to their core strength. All these english clubs offer inflated salaries to the players and are mostly on verge of bankruptcy. Much like the whole of West which deep in debt. There is no point in bailing out these greedy characters. It is sad Venky's is wasting money just for the hype associated with clubs.
It is wonderful that an Indian Company is taking over an English Premier League Team.
However, this article reminded me of the Indian Poultry Industry's small farmer. Some years ago, just before the "Bird Flu" scare hit India, many small farmers got into the poultry business. Slowly, poultry prices, chicken meat & eggs started coming down. This is as per trends in US & Europe, where poultry is the cheapest source of protein rich food. Other meats are more expensive.
In socialist India, the paradise for the poor & downtrodden, poultry was always a premium meat. Slowly this changed, and the not so affluent also started consuming poultry products.
Suddenly our country was hit by Bird Flu and we had to cull hundreds of thousands of head of poultry. During that period of course price of poultry products fell to far below costs, to ridiculous levels, like Rs. 20 a Kg for Chicken Meat.
However, a lot of small & marginal farmers were wiped out. I remember reading in the newspapers about small farmers in the regions bordering Nashik, Maharashtra, trying to take their lives, as they saw their livelihoods get buried under the ground and themselves sunk in debt.
Today, poultry is back to high prices & the companies that survived are obviously flourishing.

Rightly said...Bird Flu is not a new diesease in India, in Bengal they are called "jimuni rog" i.e. lazying diesease...its common and people will sell off the stock asap. However, with Govt. intervention only the poor man's stock got eradicated, only god knows the compensation package, while Arambagh, Suguna chicken was avaialble in the markets the poor farmers' chicks were getting mulled. Funny India..isn't it?
English Premier League teams are cheap at 280 crores compared with IPL teams which cost atleast 2000 crores. It shows how the times have changed and how countries like England are fading

IPL is watched only in India but English Premier League is watched all over the world.

Well it depends on the market valuation. Top teams like Man Utd or Chelsea will be valued higher because of their consistent performance while mid level teams like Blackburn or Bolton will be valued lower because of their ordinary performance. Also, there are only 7 IPL teams now and while there are 20 EPL teams plus many teams in lower divisions. Make 20 IPL teams and their valuation will also go down. It has nothing to do with a country rising or fading.
Many years ago the British took away our country resources and subjected our people to hardshipos, now its turn of Indians to take over British club, then companies..... Go India go.
