Revenge for cricket?
by ajoy mukarji on Oct 15, 2010 09:14 AM  | Hide replies

Was the thrashing we got from the Aussies in hockey a revenge for the beating we gave them at cricket?

Its not a wonder losing to Australia.
Indian team with its worst defence and poor gool keeping left a lot to be desired. The forward line also lacked penetration inside the Australians 'D".
Dribbling into the circle of the opponents was our strength.
Today it is completely lacking.
You should have a coach who can instill dribbling to our forwards and make them weave inside the circle, with the centre forward, inside right and inside left providing support.
India still can be power , but right people should be selected for the right job

Chinese Media praises CWG Closing ceremony
by om shanti on Oct 15, 2010 06:09 AM

I have gone through the news published..
American media still continues to ridicule us.Australia and English media seems to be loving it gradually.
However,I found the comments of China's national news agency Xinhua the warmest. Some lines are:
NEW DELHI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Fireworks sparkled the cool evening air of Delhi, setting new standards of sporting excellence as the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) kept its promise here Thursday evening.
The Commonwealth Games 2010 closing ceremony started with a showcase of the various martial arts of India in a routine that had Sanskrit shlokas (sacred phrases) echoing the air.
...a tribute to our nation with the military martial music section which left everyone awestruck. The melodious evening air was testimony to the fact that India had delivered the best Commonwealth Games ever....
..The colorful and creative presentation spread India's feeling of harmony to the world.
..The fun and frolic continued with the athletes taking centre stage and a joyous, eclectic parade was the result..
..Mike Fennel, ..summed it up quite aptly when he said: "Delhi, you have delivered a truly exceptional Games.."
It was a great sight to see the athletes from all over the world break free. They let their hair-down to an equally responsive crowd ...
It is the first time that such a parade with the athletes at the centre of the show happened in the world...

I think the bookies fixed it, why?
by sudhir dhar on Oct 15, 2010 05:59 AM  | Hide replies

In Mumbai, they were offering odds if india will lose by more than 7 goals. Most gamblers bought into it. I think the Indian defenders have been paid in crores.

Why India doesnt win
by opinion counts on Oct 15, 2010 05:47 AM

Look at that picture. Exact reason why India (for that matter other small sized Asian teams) cannot win modern day Hockey easily. The guy is grabbing and has the stick around. They dont call it a foul anymore and so bigger sized physical teams have an advantage..That used to be a foul straight away. If you watch hockey , you will see that they Australians ( to some extent Argentina and Spain) pack the midfield with big men who grab and cross. If the referee gives them free pass, there is no game..Hockey will die a slow death.. it is not due to Indian Hockey Federation but due to the international hockey federation.Every sport thrives when David beats Goliath.. If David has no chance in the sport, the sport will die.. The idiots who run International Hockey havent figured it out.. ICC did..

Hockey fans... please don't blame cricket
by NashikMarathi on Oct 14, 2010 08:34 PM

Cricket owes nothing to hockey. India may owe something to hockey as the national game - but cricket owes hockey nothing.

As far as hockey and football themselves are concerned, both sports have one element that cannot be taught. Sheer raw speed. This is what forwards in soccer covet and teams fear most - a player just running past the defender...

Until Indian players improve running speed (over the whole match) everything else is academic.
