Spectacular ceremony
by Janaki Rao on Oct 04, 2010 09:50 AM

hats off to the team that put together the opening ceremony. Amazing and unique way of showcasing India's cultural diversity and the underlying unity. A little bit of the educational, tech/IT/medical progress could have been included to portray 21st century India. Altogether, a great effort that overshadowed the shame of the past weeks. hope lessons are learnt for future events.

Simple calculation

The unorganized labourers in India get no pension. Let us say out of such people, 5 Lakh are choosen and a monthly pension of 10,000 Rupees is paid for 12 years from their 65 years of age till their age of 77. Obviously no one can do physical labor at that age, and there is no way they can get other job because they are physical labor for there entire life.

How much money is needed for such scheme? 72000 crores. Add some money for maintenance, staffing, distribution and that should be less than 5000 crores.

How much money was spent on Common Wealth Games? 77000 crores.

Correct, agree with your second para. Its time REDIFF gets for itself some good photographers and publish new snaps rather than old ones or distorted ones

Cheering the players and the athletes is alright.

But we must never forget that the Cong Govt usurped Rs. 70,000 Crore from the taxpayers.

I guess only the tax evaders are rejoicing at this moment. Or in other words, anyone who rejoices, is a tax evader.
