there is a big danger if we become two overwhelmed with all this. we can not forget that with 75ooo crore rupees spend these games are costielest ever. lot of resources wasted and kalmadi and company has made enough for their life. 5000 rupees for tissue paper is being spent.i think ater game are over just made a independent committee with a time frame and see how much money cd have been saved or cd have spend on right place. nd i can gurantee now on we can never bet for asian or olympic game. thanks to kalmadis, sheelas and gills.

I wonder where this figure of 75,000 crores comes from? It is USD 6.54 billion(Rs 36,000 crores)..now convert it into Rupees..

CWG budget is 1600 crores..rest all used by Delhi Development Authority for infrastructure development which is asset for the country..

Cost of toilet paper is Rs 40/roll as confirmed by Kalmadi in interview and media has made it Rs.4000/roll..is it not biased reporting?

Beijing Olympic budget was USD 50 Billion and without any complaint from its people..

Ya evryone said the games will be fine...the problem is it was scttered till last moment....airport approach rod, streets , amount spent on roads...evrything will come to an end and no doubt good one but why not well before the games so that evry reporter would have shown bright India, now see CP all marbles that too good quality is lying but work not completed ..imagine it would have completed before games....so all did not worked coehisively...games will be held nicly as we see one mall is clean u can have international look there but surroundings still third class. Here having spent money surroundings could have been good too.

What you conveniently overlook is the RoI on the same over a period of time. The atheletes will eat, shop etc which will generate some valuable moolah for the Government, tourism industry and several others.
Everything aside, we finally have some decent infrastructure for our athelets to make them more competitive. Blame the media to blow hot-blow cold over such issues. They are more worried about their image in front of their Gora paymasters than back an Indian event. Compare the current facilities with other places and you'd know how the atheletes were housed in university hostels and the facilities were very ordinary. Enough whining, lets move on and hope for a great haul of medals.

let us be proud as one united India

The CWG episode is beginning to end on a happy note and I am happy and thank God for that. But this is minor compared to the soft corner od has for our country of 1.2 billion people of diversity, since he keeps it a Unity all the time.

I was much more worried about the outcome of Ayodhya ruling . Thank God, we still showed to the world our best image , we showed to the millions of vultures looking from outside our country for the cadavers to be eaten in a possible aftermath of the judgement, that we are One India. For a change, i am proud of the Congress, BJP, VHP, Shiv Sena, Communists, Various Islamic and Hindu Organizations and all my brothers and sisters of India that we have stood together shoulder to shoulder with utmost composure and respect to the legal systems . We have shown to the world why and how India has to be the Superpower of today and tomorrow. With such strength in us, resisting all temptations from outside, our inner stregnth can synergize and make anything happen. I am proud of you all , I am proud to be an Indian as always .

This spirit of Unity and communal harmony is the true yardstick by which the world will assess us and we have withstood the acid test.

Mera Bhaarat Mahaan !!!!!. Jai Hind.

IF ONLY Politicians like Kalmadi and Babus like Gill had not wasted their time managing the Press with falsehoods and untenable bravado and instead quietly focussed attention on identifying problems and putting their weight behind solutions, well before the sh.. hit the ceiling, our image and pride need not have been left to be shredded by all the dogs and snakes responsible.

Sports Bodies and Sports Events need to be mandated out-of-bounds for non-sports people when it comes to heading these.

Yeah, there is nothing we cannot do. Indians have the spirit and intelligence to undertake any venture. It is that some unscrupulous characters come on stage and negate our efforts and capabilities.

Just imagine if the games was handed over to the Tatas or Shapoorji Pallonjis or Birlas, then the games infra would have been done well before and without unsavory controversies

Sanjiv you are totally wrong.
It is because they did not " manage " the press well they landed into problems.
Our press needs to be pampered constantly so that they can do objective reporting.
Just because they did not like Kalmadi's face they went to the barrage of accusations. Let us remind ourselves: one not one allegation of corruption has been proved.
Yes there have been slip ups like any games of this scale. But the damage these media guys have done is beyond repair.

Its not that indians can't do things, with extravagant amount spending and completing the job with double cost that actually estimated is not a great job. What is required is to finish the job in time and with given budget. If you spend double, tripple the amount than assigned and complete the task its not a gret thing.

Dear Om Shanti,
Media always creates hype based on wrong data. They always comment based on " our sources". We really dont know who these " our sources " are.
Everyday they need a new person to criticize to keep their 24x7 channel running. Earlier it was Lalit Modi, then Suresh Kalmadi. Luckily Ayodhya problem came so Kalmadi escaped...
Unless the media is controlled as in China we are going to the dogs.

There were plenty of news regarding preperations and all and now the foreigners are saying that they are happy with the preperations.Once again I wish all the Very good luck to all of them who are attached to this event, not because this is a big event, but for their efforts to make a big event a big success. They tried to make it successful from whatever level they contributed, may be as a Manager , may be as executive or may be as a sweeper but atleast they contributed their hard labour with dedication. This is not about only such people who are attached to the event but it IS ABOUT ALL THE INDIANS WHO HAS PAID THERE IN THE FORM OF TAX AND WISHES. i myself as an INDIAN THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR COTRIBUTING IN SUCH A BIG EVENT.
no one has reached to the perfection... actually to be perfect and reamin perfect is the process. So neither its a destination nor the stop, so we all must proceed towards it & contribute in making our NATION A PERFECT NATION.

All money from taxpayer's pocket
by Saurav Basu on Oct 02, 2010 01:19 AM  | Hide replies

In other games, money was raised from international and private sponsored

Here in India, common man is paying for the games where costs have multiplied 100 times thanks to corruption. 70,000 crores for a games village, couple of stadiums, half a dozen flyovers!!!

For that cost, you could complete the golden quadrilateral project once again

When you invite international athletes to compete, live , stay and be safe in the wake of the troubling times in India, it should not be a surprise that about 10 Billion USD is spent. The Conditions for "Living" in other countries are not the same as in India. We can probably live in a Chawl for a week, but others cannot. China Spent Upwards of $50 Billion USD for the Olympics without any complain. We can atleast spend a fifth of that just to keep our national image on par. We have failed to do so .. but thats a different story

Chill dude, it is time to enjoy the games. there will be time enough to go through this grind after the games are over.

Also it is a norm that countries take a long time to pay off these debts. Canada hosted the Montreal Olympics in 1976 and only paid off the debts in 2008, around the time of the beijing olympics.

There are intangible benefits to hosting such events, let's hope the indian think tank is making plans already to ride on the success of these game.
