Women's Hockey Team
by Satish K on Nov 17, 2010 09:42 AM

Serves the India women's hockey team right, they deserve to be beaten by every other team.

They got their fairly sucessful coach Kaushik who served for long, sacked unceremoniously after laying baseless allegations against him, with the loudest rattle raised by some fringe junior Thokchom Ranjita.

Great to see these cheap Thokchoms and co. getting THOKed by one and all.

It is a wakeup call for INDIA. How many do we really need ?
by Vishnu Sharma on Nov 17, 2010 04:18 AM

Asian Games is a metric we can use to gauge our performace at the Olympics.

We are simply not able to compete against Japanese, Chineses and Koreans.

We need to really get a sports culture going in our country and scout for talent effectively.

India is so vast with so many talented people, but few really get recognized.

Sports is a GREAT way to pull many INDIANS out of the trap of poverty and despair.

We need to allocate 20 times of the budget that is being allocated to sports currently and focus on generating world beaters in many sports.

Sports culture needs to be all pervasive and effective with a lot of encouragement and television announcements of various sporting events at various venues which scout for talent.

We need to have Joint sports meets every year in various sports to just locate and nurture this talent.

Unless, we have a good government, none of what I just suggested is going to be implemented.

India is emerging as an athletic power house
by Gurjot Singh on Nov 17, 2010 02:49 AM  | Hide replies

India has attained economic progress, with it has come military prowess and prestige in international arena. A permanent UN seat is just around the corner. All western powers including USA are dependent on Indian technology. With next ten years I expect India to be among top 4/5 nations in athletics. With a trillion $ economy, poverty is going to be a thing of the past. Mere Bharat Mahan.

Missing a 0 is not a great thing for India. This time it will be 1 Gold so that next time there is scope to improve . That is the logic behind the pathetic performance of Indian sportspersons in this edition of Asian games

is anything encouraging?
by Ramachandra Tanikella on Nov 17, 2010 12:40 AM  | Hide replies

the whole report above has words "dull, fail, disappoint, blanked, thrashed, heartbreak, knocked out, off-target" :-), so nothing seems to be going right for us. Even in games like Chess whwere we have champions and grandmasters, we are losing to Chinese. The americans, russians, chinese, japanese and koreans are the best ever in games. We cannot just compete with them, blame it on energy levels, physique, Govt politics, poor infrastructure and list goes on. I feel BCCI should donate moeny to build other games in India

I Pity your innocence. India was in top of commonwealth because most of the countries sent there B teams and not any champions. Our sports hereos (not all, my apologies to real great heroes) are best among the B team and are really not competent enough for even Asian level sports..
