True disciplined professionalism
by ebie sam on May 14, 2010 09:33 AM

If there is one sports/games person from India at the top level who has kept his head still and focussed professionally, its Anand. Years have gone by, and laurels have come to him. But he remains the same focussed person. Above all, he is one of the nicest person I have met. Very approachable and humble. True icon and a great model for any Indian to follow.

Chess Vs. Cricket in India
by sagar ganguli on May 14, 2010 09:18 AM  | Hide replies

chess is a one on one competition and skillset requirement wise much much tougher than playing cricket. Bradman, Lara, Sachin, Lindwal,Truman, so on and so forth would not be so what rhey were or are today all by themselves. they are part of a eleven-member squad pitted against another eleven side a team. But chess at the highest level even at GM level need a kind of ddication, skill, intelligence, intellect, focus and what not. Unfortunately Anand is not as popular as Sachin coutesy media and the Indian people of mediocre standard. How many of the so-called Cricket fanatics know of Capablanca who was Chess prodigy and had beaten at the age of 4 his father who was a regular player in the Cuban Army. How many of the Indian Cricket fanatics know of Nigel Short let alone Spasky or the prodigal Fisher. Anand has done India more proud than any Indian Cricketers who have all sucked the country and have not parted with their windfal gains for any noble cause of a significan scale. In fact some Aussies have done far greter for the Indian poor.

I havent seen any other Indian sports/games-person who has shown such consistency, determination and professionalism. If he was born in Russia 30 years ago, he would have been a national pride beyond comprehension. sad that the recognition and honour we give him is fadingly low compared to the newest cricket player. And the humility he adorns even when he is the World Champion of a game which is played by Millions Computers is simply unbelievable. was an honour to meet him.

Although it is the suprme civilians award . Anand should not accept it based on the past receipents - some of them got based on Caste and politics - Certainly would not like a real Bharat Ratna to be bracketed in the same category.

Mental toughness is the mantra.
by bihari babu on May 13, 2010 11:06 PM  | Hide replies

Lot of indian are mentally weak. They start work but cant carry on and complete a project. We give up. thats sign of lack of energy and mental toughness. we should give lot of projects to our kids to train them. Its basically a habit. If you dont train them now they will also turn up weak like old generation.
