You are a very good role model for Indian Kids. I hope you keep winning atleast 3 more championships and then retire in style when you are at top of the game.
If you start a chess Academy and give it regular guidance and motivation, many Indian youth will arrive at the chess world stage.
Definitely he is all time great chess player. The only chink in his armour could be 1. In his battles againt Kasparov, mostly he was on the losing side. 2. Compared to Kasparov, his winning percentage is much lesser. He draws more games than wins. On that count Kasparov is a cut above. Anand is at par with the other Russian legend, Anatoly Karpov. But all the same, at world level he is one of the rare Indian sportspersons.

Agreed. But Kasparov played far lesser games to keep his record intact, as compared to Anand who was more than willing to test his skills agains any of those top10 players....Also kasparov's fight with FIDE didn't help the chess world either to come to a common consensus....
Apart from all these things, kasporov isn't quite a gentlemen on the battlefield ...he often used to arrive late for the match by 2-3mins, to upset the opponent's strategy ....used to make quite a some annoying noise while making a move and used to place his fingers close to the board while thinking on positions ...
Taking all these into considerations, though kasparov is slighly better in tersm of technique, Anand is the overall brand ambassodor of the game.

Congratulations Viswanathan Anand. Your win is glorious, unbeatable and wonderful. Despite the very tire some 40 hours bus journey, you could come on top with flying colours. To the Viswa (world) of Chess you are the true Nath (the reigning champion).
In my assessment and opinion Viswanathan Anand is one of the best bet and best candidate as far as sports are concerned for conferring Bharat Ratna on him. Because he is FOUR times world chess champion and 11 times world chess champion in the rapid format of chess apart from his many world class achievements in chess. And also he is the only player in the world to win in all formats (game, match and knockout) the world title. And finally and most importantly Chess was born and originated in India and by the Indians. And he is the first Indian to be the world champion in this Indians invented game.
It is a very great day for India. Congratulations! India should welcome u like prince.. on the airport... like we do to our cricketers.... At least u kept the sport spirit in our heart unlike Dhoni's team.
Congrats Anand for winning against all odds. Any idea our Prime Minister or President or Minister for Sports or Chief Minister of TN congratulated him. If so pl post msg
Compare Anands achievements with our so called cricketing heroes(ZEROES)who are over rated and promoted by the media. Anand has won every tournament in the world and what has our so called great cricket team achieved.Only the WC in 1984, the World series Championship in 1984 and the T 20 WC in 2008.Nothing else.A big ZERO.Our women crikect team is better.They are playing quite well in the T 20 Wc for women. They have beaten Srilanka jsut 2 days back and our mens team lost to SLWhat a shame.The hockey team is also playing very well in Azlan Shah trophy in Malaysia.Why is the so called intelligent Indian English Media keeping quite about the other sports. Shame on them for partial and bias reporting.
The Indian citizens should wake up and start ignoring cricket for some time to come.To start I have not watched even a single match in the recent IPL and the T 20 WC and vow not to watch.

Well said Preeti! I too did the same. Watched all 12 games of Anand over internet. Football(Champions league, EPL and even i league) matches over TV But a sad news India lost to Malasia 2-5 in Azlansha hockey and lost to Indonasia (but after a good fight)in Thomas cup and lost to China in Uber cup(Saina Nehwal lost in 3 sets)

Only difference being more n more people understand cricket than chess. U don't give credit to carrom players even if they are world champs since its inception in International timeframe.

Preeti Vikram: Rightly put. But do you know what our cricket crazy fans say? Just like the famous `Deewar' dialogue `Mera paas maa hai', they will say, `hamare paas Tendulkar hai'. Unfortunately, except for his personal records, even his CV has nothing to show in terms of achievement for the country. The cricket fans also say, 100 million watch cricket, forgetting all the 100 million are from our poor country. These 100 million have nothing better to do than watching our good for nothing, over rated, over paid, media created icons of cricket!

there is no need to ignore any type of game. cricket is one game and cricketers are there to make name, fame and money, just as anand is. Dont go overboard. That is all. This is news today. Something will take over over lives tomorrow. get on with you lives.

Cricket stinks.
A game that is barely played by 12 countries - including Sri lanka, Kenya, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan...LOL.
What a bloody joke of a sport. Only we Indians can enjoy such a lame sport. And even after playing it for so long and being so crazy about it, we can't win!
