Why didnt the sports section of news channels inform this?
by sandeep kumar on May 03, 2010 03:28 PM

I hardly heard this news in any of the news channels, even the ndtv and ibnlive, which are world class. Its 2020 world cup time, and really no one is interested in some unknown player retiring. It was thrilling watching raina bat yesterday, and i hope India rocks and wins the world cup. Team India rocks!!

He was truly a world class defender. The only world class player India had since Dhanraj Pillay.

I fully agree. Tirkey's contribution to Indian team has been priceless and will be remembered all the time. Its high time for Hockey India to get benefits out of his rich experience and infuse it in the team.

Its very sad that injuries have cut short his career.

Adieu Dilip

Another Indian Hockey stalwart retires and Indian hopes keep sinking. For a brief while it seemed that IHF had got their act together. As long as we continue to depend on individual brilliance and have political strongmen at the helm of IHF, we will continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel. As Tirkey points out, talent is never the problem. His fans and well wishers will continue to wish him well and hope for something out of his coaching school.

wily

Dilip served the hockey of India very nicely. He was undoubtably a great defender and was also a part time penalty corner specialist. Well done guy.

a right decision at the right time. He will have enough time to spend at the academy which he proposes TO OPEN in Orissa where he will coach young talented players. definitely he has planned it so well. All the best for the future.

Great loss of Indian Hockey
by vinod shenbaga on May 03, 2010 10:26 AM

The wall of Indian hockey is retiring = After Viren rasquina's retirement, this would be the second blow for INDIAN HOCKEY bcoz both Viren and Dilip Tirkey were one of the best defenders in world hockey and due to their retirement , still the Void has not been filled by new young defenders.

We are losing bcoz of poor defence only= attack is fine and even Midfield is o.k.
