Having served as Chairman Army Sports Control Board from 2006 to 2008, I wrote to the then Sports Minister Mani Aiyyar about the arrogance of the National Sports Administrators, born of their sense of absolute power in running the affairs of the IOA/SOAs/NSFs as their personal fiefdoms, and the Sports Minister remaining helpless to say with a "cheek in tongue" that "I can only watch and suffer".I have published my writings on the sad state of Indian Sports in my recently published book "Passion for Courage-A Winner's Creed", which has the foreword written by Padma Shri, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna & Arjuna Awardee Col RVS Rathore, Olympic Silver Medallist, Athens Games. That, the Sports Minister who earlier swore by the autonomy of the IOA/SOAs/NSFs and not touching the issue about the autonomy of these sports bodies, even with a barge pole; has finally relented and done a great service to the Country and its Sports Persons. Mr Gill and the Govt should at no cost and under no compulsion from the Political Parties in the UPA/NDA alliances, renege upon the decision to limit tenures of these pseudo sports aficionados, who have made these bodies as their legacies. Brigadier (retd) S D Dangwal, Vishisht Seva Medal
This is a good move, even though there are allegations that the Sports Minister brought this only to get even with Suresh Kalmadi.
Along with this, the Govt should also make it ineligible for former CECs and Bureaucrats to become ministers for a certain period of time after they retire.

Very true, People like Kalmadi who was working in Airforce some years before has made so much wealth and has cheated all the poor sportsman of this country and people of pune. This regulation will kick these people out for some time allthough the corruption at this level is never going to end.
Is it necessary to have ivdividual federation for each sport seperately? We have an exclusive sports ministry headed by an independent minister. What is his job? In my opinion , all these federations should be demolished and all the issues have to be dealt with by the sports minister himself. If he wants he can be assisted by senior officers. Then only the functioning will be smooth and fast.

Mr. Sayed's concern is absolutely valid regarding Govt. administering all sports bodies; plus interference by the all-knowing beaurocrats. To make the effectiveness of the 1975 regulation complete, the ministry should find way to ensure that all sports bodies are headed by sports persons with the due credentials only. It may so happen that capable administrator may not be found from the same body of sports persons. So, an alternate could be - the affairs of a sports body runs under an elected commitee of fixed tenures, with the Govt. providing the administrative support.

What happens if some one like Laloo or Pawar becomes the sports minister ? There will not be the tribe of sports people in India they will all vanish ! Its better that some professionals in their respective sports take up the responsibility. Its not that all these proffesionals are 100% safe to play with yet the show could be run in a better much ways then done presently by the politicians and beurocrats.Good move by sports minister. One should appriciate the sports community for suffering yet performing for so many years. The present set of politicos and the beurocrats have done nothing other than eating the sports funds. Lets get rid of Kalmadi,Malhotra,Dhindsa, Verma, Sharma etc ones and for all. These guys are like well fed pigs sitting on apile of dirty money they have made and enjoying life to the fullest extent at the cost of the tax payer as well as sports community.
no time limit should be set .if a person is doing a good job can be given approval forre election.but if a person is compromising his position and does not show results should be given the boot even before his term is expired and permanently.age limit should be set to 65yrs.
The regulation is very old, but it has never been duly implementd even before 2002. Let us see if now Mr. Gill's efforts succeed to contain the vested interests in sports. BCCI had once contended that it is a private body; it would be intresting to observe how many others now take such stand to ward off the regulation.
