Good effort

Well I am not too much of a football freak but I do agree with most of the points made. I am a die hard cricket follower and it certainly makes a difference having played the game. The article is a good effort to push people on the ground.

it's not the fans that are to be blamed. hockey had its time, cricket is living its golden era and footbal will hopefully see its golden period too. What I've understood being an active football player (i don't watch football - i prefer being in the action) is football needs more attention at the grass root level. there are more cricket coaching academies than football. i havent heard of them here. well this qualifies for every other sport in the country. Personally, media can play a tremendous role. Pune FC is a new football club that has been playing pretty well lately and the Pune press has been giving them their due... thanks to the press i plan to catch their matches on tv/stadium.

also, most of the cities that i 've been to has local football competitions, (7 a side matches, in various forms) and they do pretty well in terms of registrations (barring Mumbai. the fishermen folks are really good players and they have their local tournaments and so do all the IT companies and BPO's).

A recent tournament in Pune (7 a side) had close to 150 registrations (team registrations - approx 1050 players) from people belonging to all walks of life! The tournament was given additional days to fill in the extra teams but unfortunately it wasnt covered by the press!

most of the football fans (players and ardent watchers) aren't cricket lovers. many despise the game. Post matches, we discuss EPL, spanish league, german & italian league but no ones interested in IPL o

Post matches, we discuss EPL, spanish league, german & italian league but no ones interested in IPL or cricket.

and the icing in the cake, the present coach of the Indian football team has just submitted his papers. Football in india is a hobby not a sport where u can live on unlike cricket. another reason for it not gaining traction in the competitive front.

cheers...

Chill buddy.
Once we win some major tournament (at least Asia Cup), you will find genuine football fans in India.
Cricket needed the world cup win to become big. Football will have its time too.
Its the administrators more than the fans who are to be blamed for the stalled progress of the game.

Not clear

I dont what your gripe is ? Whether you are upset with the fact that, there are more following european football than indian or lets say asian football? Or is it just that cricket fans are more "wise" than the football fans?

Its B.S way of looking at things, I mean over 90 minutes of a game of football, every tackle , one to one's and duels are entertaining to watch and practise.
