Hockey fiasco
by Bodh Ramdeo on Mar 14, 2010 08:03 AM

Knowing anything about hockey is not a prerequisite- anyone who's been a Govt minister or a big-shot ex-police-wallah or a big-shot in the IAS, APS etc will be a shoe-in.
The world will know that the big boss of Indian hockey has a lot of 'achievements' and a lot of 'papers'- the actual performance of the team is of negligible importance.

Very high quality hockey
by S Shrikanth on Mar 13, 2010 11:47 PM

In this fortnight we have seen the finest hockey played by various teams. The teams were so good, that any team could any team. Pak beating Spain, spain beating England, England beating Australia, Argentina giving tough fight to Germany, NZ giving Korea the only defeat in league match, Canada holding Dutch till half time.

Hockey played on Polygrass has become very fast and attarctive too. European teams can be seen playing short passes, and Asian teams sometimes playing European style long passes. In this world cup saw convergence of both style of hockey.

For India, it was not too good, they still need to learn a lot to tackle the Europeans and Australians.

In the end the best Hockey team won the crown. Australia were truly worthy of it.

How does it look like the double - World Champion in Cricket and Hockey both.

And another Double - Ric Charlsworth winning World cup as captain (1986) and winning it again as Coach(2010). Please mind that Charlsworth was keen to coach Indian team, but was denied last year.

Exactly. But where is the bench? We have Asian games and commonwealth games ahead.

I do not think Indian hockey player are to blame. Its the happenning in Hockey in the last 15 years, and particularly in last one year is to blame.Hockey players were not paid salary for a long time and they were denied renumeration till start of World Cup.

I suggest this team to be retained and retrained by Brasa for the two major competitions.
