Any sport today is found to be POWER GAME, be it Hockey, Football, Tennis or Cricket (i had no choice to bring it in)..Indians are generally not that strong in physique, all our sports legends are and have been traditionally great artists with style and flair, but in mordern day games what counts is agility, stamina, strength and power..we are not athletic by nature, our kids pick up sports at young age but are reluctant to pick up atheletics..i read in another post that instead of encouraging kids to take up thier desired sport at a very young age let them start to take part in atheletics and may be compete in more than one sport, these are paramount to success in todays games

Indians are as strong.. Our body structure may be different but I don't think hockey is a pure power sport. It's a stamina sport.
This Indian Hockey team seems much better than our teams in the last few decades.Leave aside the score sheets they are now playing as well as others-attacking with fast moves, entering the scoring circle too often and even now converting penalty corners.Forwards and midfield players are brilliant but the defenders need to be sharpened-an example in the match against England, found 4-5 English players in defence around their goalie everytime in clearing the ball unlike our players.Cach Barsa seems an asset to our hockey and am sure in more time he can make our hockey team more better.Inaugral match against Pakitan thrilled all of us-Indian players looking much superior than our traditional Asian rivals. Thanks Coach Barsa. Still the vanished Asian style of hockey was a treat to watch in the yesteryears.
Lets not get disheartened from India's performance. Remember against all the teams, we scored at least twice, apart from the Pakistan match. Now thats an important achievement, which means we could shake even the best defences of the world. Probably considering the fact, that if our defence and midfield(in the absence of Shivenra ) had performed better, than we could have a better result to show. But no team was ever prepared in a fortnight. Bcos just a few weeks ago, no one was even sure if India could even get recognition from World Hockey, captain and team selection too was blurred. Ideally, for a home World Cup we should have prepared from at least a year and half ago. But thats the state of Indian Hockey. Lets not forget, that after the Asian Games victory against Pak, this dictator called Gill upset the winning applecart by throwing out players like Pillay, and others. The worst part in Hockey is player are never sure about their future, in the game itself, leave alone earning from it. When criceters inspite of good remuneration, think to make bucks, how can our hockey players concentrate on a game, in which they can can earn money, and even cant earn fame, too at times, bcos of politics in the hockey board ?

WHAT OLD AGE THINKING ? WE HAVE TO PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS. HAS BRAZIL CHANGED THEIR STYLE OF FOOTBALL ? NO AND THEY STILL PRODUCE GREAT PLAYERS
Though India has lost most of the matches in the ongoing world cup, Still I like the attitude of Indian Player. They were in good shape, They fought equally against all the leading teams.
But India lacks in finishing. The mental toughness needs to be increased to play in pressure situation.
Indian team under Brassa has good future. all the Best.
Everything has to change ,right from the administration. Our players have to concentrate on fitnes and stamina and the coach on the strategy and planning for each match seperately.Otherwise we will further go down in world hockey. We have plaenty of skill.
absence of man to man marking and diagonal passes cost them dear. Even the God cant help the indian hockey team unless the attitude of the players & administers towards the game change

It is not that bad. We may have lost some matches but what we need is some PATIENCE. After seeing some matches I feel we have a bright future. Let us stand by the boys who have definitely done better than before. They need our support, encouragement and a little patience.
The change which needs to be inocorporated first & foremost is improving the financial investment, be it for improving sports infrastructure or increasing player's benefits. Even machines don't run without oil, how the hell do you expect Humans to perform on half-filled or empty stomachs? The fracas by Indian Hockey Regulatory Body pre-world cup was a shining example of how India treats Sports & what is the level of it's Sports Policy; in one word "PATHETIC". We're happy to die rolling in the Cricket gutter but will never spare a second thought to get out of it to a world of Sport beyond Cricket.
