high time prabhjot, pillay, thakur, halappa are shown the door...build a new team out of rajpal, chandi, shivendra, gurbaj, bharat...and add some talented and fast juniors...don't also change the coach again and again.
I think India's defence is the weakest...they just can't seem to clear the ball from their own D...they seem to be napping when the ball comes to their own circle...midfield is good but strikers are weak...what is deepak thakur doing in this team? what is prabhjot singh doing? India should base their forward line on the new guys like Chandi, Shivendra, Chikara, Rajpal etc...high time oldies like Vikram pillai, prabhjot and deepak thakur are shown the door...

What defence? What forward? Everyone knows how hockey federation is working. I don't see any youngster taking up hockey in vast parts of India. Instead of blaming the officials and govt, you are putting the blame on players.

yes..they could hardly keep the ball to the stick for more than 3 seconds,whenever spain eneterd our half,we panicked...
It was from 1980s that India started losing heavily about the same time hockey was switched from grass to turf. Arrange a match in grass today between India and Australia and India will drub Australia 10-0....the Westerners have changed the game as they would like to...and India missed the boat again...India can never dominate on turf and that is a fact.

that was so funny , the aangad teda thing,but i have to agree with don puttar , it was just big strategy by westeners, as astro turf, needs sheer muscle and strength , which the indian genes doesnt possess. we as players need to hit the gym hard, did you guys see the shoulders of spanish players , they looked like body builders , yoy need a lot of strength both upper and lower to move the ball around on wet turf.

Have you followed hockey from the 50s? It requires real hockey skills like dribbling to win on grass...Europeans don't have the skills for that as their whole game is based on deft one-touch long passes...

yes thats true but game has changed for last 20 years and we are singing the same tune for last 20 years ?y cant we change?Spain were minnows till 2000 they have become world champions in 10 years.Netherlands have a population of less than 1 crore they can develop brillinat players y cant we?

maybe asians are natural players of grass like how westerners are naturalk players of turf...do u see the significance of my point? we as asians were not strong enough to lobby for grass...see soccer it is still played on grass only.

Maybe he is saying that turf is more suited to Europeans as it plays fast and Indians cant match the pace. Where as if its grass it doesn't play that fast and majority of our players routinely play on grass only, turfs are rarely available at grass root level.

i totally totally agree with don paji and sethi bhai, the gora are so clever, look how the have been adapting the game to their strenghts . -first came astro- need a lot of stength , -then came this rule where by the is no obstruction , as we indians are flexible and goraz are just bulks , so the can use thier bodies to obstruct the ball,
-then came the no off-side rule, you need much more fitness to mark the deep players,
-then came continoius substution,
-now come the self pass starting rule,
there is not time for breather, which totally fits well with goras as ther have nothing else but strenght n fitness. and us indians we are like " break hi nahi milti yaar"
football and hockey need short burst and unlike cricket a game of hockey gives a fair chance to the less talented team to create an upset as time is short..a good span of 50 minutes can win you a game...

Indians played better Hockey then Spain. They were holding ball better. Only problem were PC conversion. Despite having three specialists we were not able to convert.

there is no point blaming K P S Gill or for that matter anyone. We need to acknowledge that our teams are unfit to play against better-skilled teams, especially those from Europe. We are still playing the hockey of the 60s, while Europeans and Australians have enormous headways in their game in the last three decades. Not forgetting the fighting Koreans, who I had the fortune of watching at different venues.

Agreed with your second sentence. There might be difference in playing style, but much greater difference exist in physical ability- stamina, strength, speed(with accuracy). So, dont expect too much. This is not a magic show going on. You reap what you sow.
Either from Grass Roots viz. Schools till Sports Ministry IMPROVE that is become professionals otherwise QUIT playing the most elegant and enthralling sport Hockey ironically originated in Hindustan.
