Very sad to note the following in our Indian hockey team.

1. The players look malnutritiened and weak.
2. They seem mentally dejected.
3. Do not have stamina to even run fast and turn around.
4. All seem like from villages, poor and physically unfit.
5. There should be an investigation why we do not get well built and qquality individuals to play Hockey.
6. Obviously the answer to point 5 is that we do not pay money in Hockey and hence get poor and disspirited individuals to play for us.
7. Indian Hockey federation SHOULD be squarely blamed for the defeat in not getting good quality players. Our players cannot run fast, cannot turn and lack concentration. It was painful to see them run with the ball looking straight while the oponent simly steals the ball from the rear. Shows total lack of concenytration of the playing arena..

talking about team's performance today should ponder what these guys get in the form of support from their feds? what kind of chaos they have to deal with it, and for god's sake , this is their chosen career , what must be going through their minds when all they see is the preposterous babus and fed officials fighting for the chair ,politics; sacrificing and hurting everything about the game and the very ethos of a strong sporting union culture.....these guys have to fight for bits and pieces, i can still say without bias , the kind of game indians and pakis play still has some moments of brilliance which are non-existent in among even the champions....the subtle moves , the nuances of the stick, more circular dribbles...they are breathtaking, special and need to be supported the precise reason why IhF wanted the world cup to be held in india , to revive it , but what our national feds do ? they screw it big time right before the biggest event of hockey ...great morale booster...however, i will remember the vikram pillai goal in the loss against australia and today's first goal of sandeep singh under extreme pressure and expectation

I fully agree. The India-Pakistan match was the Match of the Tournament. Believe it or not!

Europeans and Australians play dull hockey with sheer power and speed. Such hockey is not spectacular.

Vikram Pillay's goals against Australia and today by Chandi were brilliant goals. The team did not lose because of lack of talent, but due to lack of International exposure.

Shrikanth:

Why do you NOT want to watch a fast paced match? Games evolve, strategies change, and instead of sitting on one's laurels revering in past glory one has to move forward...
No use saying Bangladesh can win the Cricket World Cup if countries play One Day Internationals with 60 overs a side and 2 to 2.5 runs an over averages because THAT'S HOW ODIs were played in 1975.... :)

chandi goal was great show of wit ...although i don't like his overall playing style , i think he screws up a lot of opportunities, maybe because hes one of the younger members....
as for europe i liked the spain's game..especially their captain only his left hand on a number of occasions to dribble.....
for modern hockey a complimentary style of subcontinent dribbling skills and european efficiency powered by australian/korean speed will be something to watch out for

that sounds like because developed countries are rich we cannot be richer...although i get what you mean...everyone should learn form cricket's success and try to apply some of what relates to other sports..it has to start from the federations and corruption

very poor performance
by Noname on Mar 05, 2010 12:46 AM  | Hide replies

I wanted to move on other sports except cricket and i saw the match. Its very very poor play by indian team. Following things are lacking
1. No team work/No dedication for win
2. Each player wants own goal
3. Poor passing
4. Lacking of recover ball from opponent
5. Unable to keep ball at least 10sec
6. Cannt run fast....
and more.....

They are just playing for time pass or may be they did not get enough money to play..

I do not think, I will see again..

Non of these. I saw the full match and disagree with you.

This newly formed team after a lot of upheavals happened recently like Sacking of IHF, formation of Hokey India and so many controversies like non payment of salaries to the players, poor equipments etc. There were also demoralizing news that World cup getting shifted out from India due to adhoc Hockey India.

However, the main reason for defeat is due to lack of International experience of the team. While other teams started preparing for the World cup 2 years back, we formed the team just 3 months back with no international experience.

Lack of International experience was clear evident in the last 2 matches. This team can do wonders in a year time provided the coach Brasa stays for long term(till next WC).
