Hockey died in 1975 - Obscene rules need a change!
by Talisman on Mar 03, 2010 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

I watched the Aussie players run from one end to the other without putting stick to the ball and get into the circle and push the ball into the opponent's legs to get a penalty corner.

If the FIH thinks this is hockey, I have got news for you. I think the current rules ignore spectators. I dont want to see some guy running like heck. I want to see players put stick to the ball.

Yes. Thats how they succeed.

First they killed Hockey with Astro Turf and then with terribly long passes, enter the D of the opponent and get a penalty corner and hit hard.

The real hockey was killed in 1975, immediately after India became World Champions.

Why Cannot do the same. Just blaming turf and other excuses?
It is Indian politics who made India cry in Hockey. It look like Only Pnjab is representing the whole Hockey. That is reason we are so behind.Partiality and politics is the down fall of Hockey.

No, we are only talking about the hockey the artistic game that India and Pakistan used to play, has been killed.

But its 28 years since hockey world cup was played on grass and every team should had mastered on artificial turf, because this is life.

The fact is that hockey administrators completely ignored hockey in India. The neighbors Pak had no problem adapting with Astro Turf and they continued to give good performance. So, India can not escape with an excuse here.

Guys, we have to take introduction of astro-turf into consideration because both India & Pakistan were adversly affected by this change because of their playing styles. For around two decades after its introduction, it had been a downward slide for both the countries. People lost interest in hockey and so did the sponcers. At the highest level of any sport, you need brains to understand the game as every thing has become so scientefic. Thus, what we have today is probably not the best of the lot as we could have had! If Indian hockey has to regain its lost glory then IHF with the support of Government has to come up with some lucerative plan that could attract the best of talent. Once that is done we can then think of providing the best of equipments and infrastructure along with professional trainers to these lads. May be then we may hope to see a podium finish in World Cups.

INDIAN HOCKEY
by Murali Dharan on Mar 03, 2010 11:00 AM

It was a rather predictable defeat than an unfortunate one. The Aussies were so quick and Indian could not cope up with that. However, Indians based on their performance against the arch rivals Pakistan, I think they could have played much better than what we witnessed yesterday. They still have chance to come back and earn a semi final berth. Hopefully, they will not succumb to the pressure of host nation.

Coach Brasa Excellent coach for Indian Hockey Team
by Anil chander on Mar 03, 2010 10:54 AM  | Hide replies

Coach Brasa is doing splended work in the imporvement of our boys and he should be defenitely equiped with the latest gadgets as per the world standard to train our players, I again complement the effort done by coach and the players. No matter we win or loose but defenitely coach like Brasa should be given more time and I am definetely sure by one year he will be able to make our team a world champion. Work to creat onee or two drag flickers like Sandeep Singh should be done.

We Don't have Sachin in Hockey, otherwise Australians would have been shown doors easily.
Sachin, Viru, MSD and likes of them are required to take on Australians.
SRK should Visit Hockey stadium to inspire our player.
His Chuck De India words would inspire indian Hockey Team.

Don't compare cricket and hockey players. There is hardly any competition in cricket, as very few countries play it. It is easy to do well in international cricket compared to other more popular games.

Forget this useless IPL Man. This is the problem why India cannot become a superpower as being outstanding in international sports is important for this (see the case of China). Cricket is useless , a complete waste of time in today's fast paced world and not even an international sport- played by only 8 countries. I would like to see all my fellow countrymen focus on other sports.
