Ban on Shivendra
by priya chandrasekar on Mar 02, 2010 12:50 PM  | Hide replies

the question is not about whether it was intentional or not. It is about the Hockey rules. FIH has been trying hard to make Hockey a safer game and there are stringent rules against lifting the Hockey stick when the ball is on the ground. there are many other rules, for instance, ball can rise, but if it rises when at a situation when it is dangerous (eg - another player is nearby), it is a foul. Similalry, if a forward striker and a Defender are next to each other and trying to handle a high ball, it is an automatic foul if the defender is not allowed to receive the ball without hindrance. so ultimately, i believe it was a fair decision considering the way the rules are. Only thing to be seen is whether such a rule is consistantly followed, especially when it comes to European / australian players

The Pakistani team management and the referee must have be ignoramus fools to have resisted the temptation of complaining or taking action on the field. And we are being harrangued about rules and regulations that exist only for Asian teams! This is the tragedy of India and Indians. The white man is god for them. He cannot commit any mistakes deliberately or otherwise!

Did you see the last match yesterday between Netherlands and Argentina? Taekama did the same thing and not even a Green card was given. For time immemorial Indian teams have been given the wrong decisions by the biased European umpires. With TV replays coming the players have something to fight for. This probably could not be digested by the FIH officals. The Indian government fights for all unnecesary things and it is a shame they cannot fight for this when Hockey is our National game and is been played in our soil.

Yes. Indian teams have always been at the receiving end of harsh punishments. we have seen that in cricket as well. However, i am sure that with our money power and good performance we will be a force to reckon with in Hockey, just like we are today in Cricket

This Ban is Foul
by Tushar Ray on Mar 02, 2010 12:41 PM

I agree with Hitendra's post. The Pakitani player in question in such a high tension match did not protest. The referees also let it go, then the authority in question comes in and absues the power vested in them. This is not clean. I wish Indian team shrugs off this and wallops Oz

the only thing intentional is, the decision
by Superman on Mar 02, 2010 12:39 PM  | Hide replies

If you hit your opponent intentionally, you should atleast move your stick....But Shivendra Singh did nothing...only he tried to run faster.....Pakistani player came in his way.....Pakistan did not lodge any complain.....

But again Aussies came into picture.....I feel Aussies need beating.....Their confidence must be broken....

Why two match ban?

Australia wants that they an Spain go to the Semi-final.....If the ban is extended to the England match, England who has already beaten Aussies has a chance in their favor....

So, Australia tried to make their life difficult...

Now what India should do?

Forget Shivendra.....This incident will only hamper India's concentration....

Today they should fight it out on the ground and show Aussies their way....

Chak de India!!!!

Why the officials are acting so cowardly? Why are they not openly saying that the Australian have taken this decision to weaken India's position in front of Australia.
When Pakistani team did not raised the issue, when match Referee did not thought it to be an issue why this Australian have acted without any reason and imposed this ban.
Indians must tell them that you are doing just to save your own Australian team from Indian Team in the next match. if they do not do this that means they too are been bribed by Australians - its very simple. - Dharmesh

The australians will not change if the game changes from cricket to hockey. Since they are genetically criminal they will be criminal in all sports.
This was deliberately done to bring the morale down of Indian Players beofre their match with Aussies. A crookedly thought out startegy

India not happy
by Hirendra Chatterjee on Mar 02, 2010 12:35 PM

The technical director has scored a goal against India and in favour of his ocuntry by punishing Shivendra for no fault of his. This is blatant bias that Europeans and Australians share routinely against Asians. When the aggrieved party (Pakistan) did not protest and the referee who was standing yards away did not even give a foul, who is this racist to intervene and punish Shivendra? India should win the match against Australia. That will be a tight slap on the face of racists like this sinister Australian "technical director".
