As to the letter of the law and its interpretation is concerned, yes safe play should be advanced at all fronts.

Yet, the point here is not safe play.

The most important point is the usage of the term - 'delibrate' by the this Aussie, when the opposing player did not fall to ground, the referees did not report, or whistle for foul.

On the replays, it can be seen only as a reflex of the hand movement by which the stick moves over the shoulder level - where the opponent happened to be there. As a matter of fact, the opponent was in the 'blind spot' relatively.

So the merit of the punishment is uncalled for and sinister.

His decision brings memories of old Darryl Hair and the OVal ball tampering brouhaha. He tried to play super cop at the egging of the South African - English Coach and called the Pak team cheats without a shred of evidence when 24 cameras were peering through every single act of the players.

Kevin Read - Has rewritten the laws of the game. Alas, shame on the beautiful game.

Shame on you Australia - You beauty - you aint a sportive country.

You simply pits of the world, scum on earth, a desecration to all values of Sports ethos.

Ban Australia from Commonwealth Games.

Cheers

India and Pakistan has to consolidate its position in FIH otherwise these incidents will be a consistent feature. They will not allow the Asian giants to regain their lost glory. Europe is scared if Asians play well.

not biased but the truth is
by suresh iyer on Mar 02, 2010 01:18 PM

in hockey no player is supposed to lift the stick above waist level, in the case we are discussing please see the footage again and you will see the number of times the stick went above shoulder level in a flick and enough evidence for the ban. that is what our hockey friend should realize and avoid after the ban/two matches...he is a good player and india is a good team..will pray that we win.india jai ho

by stanish lawrence on Mar 02, 2010 01:14 PM

I feel that the FIH is gone blind the whole world can see that it was not delibrate infact Fareed Ahmed deliberatley hit shivendra attacking his legs with his hockey stick, and the pakistani player should have been baned first

Not at all deliberate
by sam samson on Mar 02, 2010 01:10 PM

By clearly looking at vidio clip and I like million around the world watched the match.Hit over the forehead was not at all deliberate but
spontaneous, mild. How the jury can brand this incidence a deliberate hit.it is a shameful verdict, they are simply raciest, wish instead of Indian if there would have been a same hit by a white skin.

We always play our heart out when we play at HOME and with home support of such magnitude that the whole stadium roars CHAK DE at same time. But dunno why Indian hockey fails miserably when they go abroad. Is it because of climatic conditions or less of India support on the field...dunno

But I agree .. we are one very strong side in this tournament and we can spring one too many surprises and give best teams a run for their money. We look a more daring and committed UNIT under this new SPANISH coach too. Way to Go ! CHAK DE INDIA. I would love to see India beat Netherlands or atleast draw with them and not lose to them. If they beat Germany in case they get to play them, then that would be icing on the cake.

Go India Tigers Go ! Jeetna hay today.

Tiger Tiger .. make KANGAROOS hop , hop and fall down tired in the stadium. Scare the kangaroos away tigers... Go ! WINdia. WIN

Shivendra had been passionate as were the rest of the Indian Team on that night.Maybe some over eagernesss had led to such incidence.Let the same passion be carrried by Team India through out and we all will see the opponents trying only dirty tactics to keep us away from their goalpost. What happened to Pakis that night was they totallly forgot their attacking game and if we play with that mindset Aussies,Spaniards,Englishmen and Argentines are in line to bow like the Pakis did.Let the Indians Rock no matter What and focus on Winning.Shivendra will comeback if the replacements allow him to.All the Best to him.

International Conspiracy
by Bhavesh Jain on Mar 02, 2010 12:55 PM

Friends,

It is very much international conspiracy to kick out Hockey India. FIH President has already stated that it will ban Hockey India by May and the performance from our india was outstanding. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA WAKE UP KICK OUT SURESH KALMADI. KICK OUT POLITICIANS FROM SPORTS.

Aussie will be aussie that`s true, they don`t have guts down ;). Remember, it was excellent play by Team India in first game. Our team will be more agressive and prepared for more ban ;) from aussie for defeating aussie. The Indian Man-to-Man defence will again kick Aussie ass.

TEAM INDIA concentrate and get victory. It will be reward for Shivendra Singh too

CHAK DE TEAM INDIA.
