Bumpy pitches...
by neeraj tanwar on Mar 02, 2010 11:26 AM  | Hide replies

I think these guys are just being hyped for lesser talents. A true professional does not harp over bumpy pitches, if he has the craft then he performs on any kind of turf. These people have been mollycoddled a bit too much and should be told to shut and play on what is there. Greats of the era gone by performed and won over millions of heart by their ability, they were never seen cribbing on such issues.

Everyone knows that this a new laid down track and it has extra bounce as well as speed. This is natural.

The track is new to everyone, including Indian team, so no point in complaining. If they have complaints then better ask FIH to revert back to natural Grass.

The problem with European teams is that they start conspiring against India right from the beginning. They first brought Astro turf to kill natural Grass, then changed the rules according to their convenience. Now complaining about the track.

They must stop now. India's performance in the first match has renewed the excitement in India. It is most likely that Centre of World field hockey may shift to India.

I can book IPL tickets from iplt20dotcom but i am not getting any site to book hockey tickets. Some one told that hockey tickets are given for free, even then more than 50% of seats are empty

WC Director is an Australian
by Anamika Dey on Mar 02, 2010 10:39 AM  | Hide replies

Unfortunately the Hockey WC 2010 Director is an Australian called Ken Read and he has banned our important forward position player Shivendra Singh for three matches. This is a very tactical move before the India Australia match. The cause shown is a deliberate hit to a Paki player but it has clarified by our coach Brasa that it was unintentional and accidental. First it was Greg Chappell, now this Hockey director and also all that ethnic violence in Australia against all Indians. Guess this country called Australia is a similar if not bigger threat to us than China or Pakistan.

The biggest slap to Ken Read will come if Pak team should lodge a protest against ban of Shivender, but they won't do it coz they are not known for sporting gestures.

Couldn't agree more with you, after all the australia is a country of convicts, what else can we expect from the convicts ?

Since we were hosting the WC, we should have made it sure no aussie is at the head / decision making position, our bad.

India should make sure that it stands up for itself and shows others their position, down there.

We should part ways with our attitude that everyone is a friend and wake up to the reality, unless with ki..k others a.s&s, no one is a friend

well. Grass is supposed to be bumpy!
by Talisman on Mar 02, 2010 10:30 AM

Hockey should be played on regular Grass and not some smooth surface that is imaginary.

So quit complaining about the smoothness of the surface.

When the players complain that the turf is not smooth when it is dry is there some knowledgeable person who knows Hockey in India who will clarify this mistake if it was so.

Chalta Hai attitude
by Vishal Bhargava on Mar 02, 2010 10:07 AM  | Hide replies

I am an Indian who has spent many years outside India and having returned back to create something new, am getting sick of the utter lackadaisical "Chalta Hai" attitude in India. I am sure that the bumpy turf is a by-product of this attitude where nothing of quality can ever be produced. The flooring on which the astroturf would have been laid might not have been smoothened and might not have been cleaned properly either before laying out the turf. That cultural issue has to be resolved before India can dream of becoming a semi-developed country. Things look good from the outside but as soon as you see it closely, you can find that there is absolutely no emphasis on quality.

'Bumpiness' is a lame excuse of the foreign teams who have not done as per expectations. India & Pak played a wonderful match on the same bumpy ground. International players shld be able to play on all conditions of ground and weather.

Self-deprecation is India's special quality! Chalta Hai is not unique to India-look at the billion dollar car recalls of Toyota & Hyundai. Also, the Recession in the West was caused by their Chalta Hai attitude. We must take pride in India Inc.

another under the table deal ?
by Chat on Mar 02, 2010 09:48 AM  | Hide replies

This newly laid poly grass will b another example of hw indian administrators get the money from. I'm sure that they must have compromised the quality of turf against thier under the table share from the vendor who supplied it.
