RONALDO''S POOR SHOW IN WC
by SRIDHAR RAGHUNATHARAO on Jul 01, 2010 10:00 AM  | Hide replies

In my opinion, media nowadays has projected Ronaldo more as a glamorous player and a sybol of sex rather than his true talent as a player committed to the game. Added to this is the hefty money he got for playing the club matches for which he devotedly contributrd. These factors lead to his poor show in WC. A sad story similar to the players of IPL cricket for forsaking National pride. All concerned about National Pride shold learn a costly lesson.

This fake Ronaldo is more of a PLAYBOY than a PLAYER.
So he was brutally exposed in WC 2010.
Media only hyped up his football abilities beyond reason.
He was jusst a club level player earning big bucks.

Football is not a one man game. One can perform only with a help of teammates. Portugal does not have quality players like Ronaldo.

world cup makes legends not club football!!
by Rizwan Khan on Jul 01, 2010 01:08 AM  | Hide replies

Someone here said that club football is more important??

Football world cup is the ultimate for a player. Ask ronaldo if he would give away all his money, all his club titles for the FIFA WORLD CUP. He will give everything!!

Nothning comes near world cup. club football is for football fans only, world cup is for the planet!!

True legends are the players that have succeeded in world cups. Maradona, pele, brazilian ronaldo, zidane, etc etc.

Rizwan,
You are correct. A players is worshiped depending on his performance in the worldcup and not in the leagues.
Player like Pele, Maradona, Eusebio (Black Pele), Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer,Michel Platini are all time legends and to my surprise there is not even a single player from the leagues except Messy who is performing well in the world cup.
If given the option to choose from the Counrty and League Jersey, every player will choose country because that is where you belongs. They know league can wait but not the country.

In a perfect world yes. But you yourself have answered it >> "to my surprise there is not even a single player from the leagues except Messy who is performing well in the world cup".
It should have been that playing for country comes first, but the Arab Sheiks and the American and Russian millionaires are making things difficult. Look at fabiano, playing for Sevilla isn't fun. So he scores a few and the very next day asks Man United or AC Milan to come and get him.

Yups true football fans who love every aspect of the beautiful game and love watching it months after months and years after years.
And well while not denying pele and maradona's legendary status, they played in a different era. But when you talk of great players, so are Ryan Giggs, george best, raul gonzales, pavel nedved, peter schmeichel, thiery henry, marco van basten

Kaushik,
The name you have listed, they don't even fall in the best of the best and you are calling them great players. Possibly because you are following football for past few years.. I've been watching and playing since 1986 WC.

Shesh Lak, if you have been following football since '86, surely you would know who George Weah or Eric Cantona are? Peter Schmeichel? That is, of course, if you have access to cable TV. lol.

I call them great because i watch football throughout the year, every year. Not for one month in 4 years. go to Old trafford and talk of ryan Giggs, you will habe your answer.

Kaushik, I think Shesh Lak doesn't have cable TV and is dependent on DD for football coverage.lol. Would love to hear his version of the 'best of the best'. Truly ridiculous if he thinks Van Baasten, Weah and George Best aren't all time greats. Bet his answer will be Maradona and Pele. lol.

Mr Kaushik,
All these leagues are famous because of the money but FIFA World Cup still reigns over them in terms of the popularity.
In the worldcup players play for their nation's pride and the viewer cry when they hear their national Anthem, which is not so in the professional leagues. Level of involvement is more and standard is much higher in worldcup, which no one can dispute. Get your facts right Bondhu.

Also, let me tell you its the clubs that are identifying the talents and making them finished products. Who do you think made Messi a star? Do you think its Maradona? he is a product of only Nou Kamp. Was introduced at the age of 17 to la liga by Rijkard. Thats what has made him the player he is now.

Mr lak, I hope you watch the club matches. The teams built are much more professional, and the leagues last for 10 months. 38 league matches CL matches FA cup (for england), etc. Dude its takes a lot of quality, skill and strength to excel in these leagues. Players like Giggs, george best never played in world cups but they are legends. Its not just the money, watch Barca or Inter Milan play, I can tell you none of the national sides in WC comes anywhere close to those standards. None of the national coaches are any matcg for SAF, Guierdolla(pardon the spelling) or Jose Mourinho.

Kaushik,
Messy talent was identified at the age of 10 at the time when he was diagnosed with the rare growth related problem, because the cost for his treatmest was USD 900 month, he struck a deal with Barcelona. I never denied these players play for leagues but the league games don't come close to the emotion and passion you find in the world cup. You are trying to make a comparison which doesn't even have any value here. Leagues players are bought and sold but it is not the same with any of the countries team. You see Barca or Ajax players playing fast paced football because loosing doesn't matter, but when the same player plays with his national jersey, the whole equation becomes all together a different one.
I think you are a league fan, and I don't have any problem with that. And now come to coach, dude getting big money doesn't make a person better coach . Look at Maradona and Dunga, they have taken up the coach position because they want their country to win, you can't dispute their knowledge of sport in general. A coach is great if he pulls the best out of his team with the available bunch of players rather than having the best of world and then acting as the coach of the team. If that would have been the case then the so called names you have mention above would have been selected as Coach for their respective countries.

If you want to learn how a teams are built, then have a look at the DVD called "Two Escobars" by ESP

Loosing doesn't matter in leagues...lol...its not me but you who is letting emotions get the better of you. And well talking of coaches, you know what SAF did for United? Do you know how he has built teams after teams for 23 years now? Just money? No dude, you have to know the red devil history to find that out. I don't need to see any DVDs, i have seen how he made paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs Eric cantonna, C. ronaldo and I know what it takes to make a team.
But my main point is, just an one month tournament in 4 years doesn't determine the supremacy of a player. Going by your arguments Klose should have been the best striker the world has seen since Brazilian ronaldo, but thats not the case.
I am not making any comparison. But just watching one tournament in 4 years and determining the quality of players is absolutely foolish. You can't write off ronaldo or rooney as mediocre players, maybe they are selfish or money minded. but at the same time they are great players, players of the very best quality.

What I do not deny is that playing for country "SHOULD" involve more emotions and passion. But sadly, my friend, thats not the case. Its not any more in football or tennis (does anybody remember a tournament called Davis Cup). And if IPL survives, cricket will follow suit.

Brazilians have learned a big lesson in 2006 WC that star studded team wont win cup for their country.
As the say goes, presence of an Alpha Male causes lot of trouble in a group if there are many other available who are more capable than him. This is very true in the Football too, that is the reason Dunga dropped him from the squad because the current team with the likes of Kaka, Robinho, Fabinho, Lucio and others is far better without Rinaldiniho.
Similar is the case of German team too, they are young and dynamic team without Michael Ballack and performing much better under LAHM's captaincy.
