Berdych ends Federer's Wimbledon reign
by Fazal Curmally on Jul 02, 2010 12:47 PM

If you look at the Semi-finalists at Wimbledon, you will see they are a newer and younger set of players. They are, Nadal, Berdych, Djokovic and Murray. There are few if any players of Federer's generation of tennis players left. We have Hewitt and Roddick from Federer's time but they didn't count for very much either.

It is time for Federer to retire with grace instead of being hammered and humiliated into submission. All things must pass it is time for Roger Federer to become a part of Tennis History as an all time great if not the greatest.

Adieu, King Roger!

Curtain is about to fall on Roger Federer's glorious career as a Tennis Player. After about two years, he will have become a 'had been', but record books will ensure that his name remains synonymous with Tennis. As long as the sport of Tennis survives, the debate about Roger Federer being the best Tennis player ever, shall continue.
While his records are known to all, little is known about his total devotion to the game. Long back I had read an article in 'The Guardian' about his fitness regime. The writer had simply wondered if anyone knew how fit he was, and how hard he worked on his fitness. One information I picked up from the article was, that Roger trained for one month during the off season with the Swiss Army. It was owing to this strict fitness regime that barring a few instances of back trouble late in his career, he never has had to take any treatment on court.
Then, there is his range! Federer mostly was without a coach. Whenever he had a coach, it did not work for him. He seemed to have a number of options in every situation, and his natural instinct was to try them all one by one, a tendency, any coach would like to curb.
Then, there is his conduct, both on and off the court. He was never involved in any controversy, and never got adverse publicity. He has not just been a champion sportsman, but has also been a wonderful ambassador of the game, with worldwide acceptability.
Let us bid farewell to this uncrowned king of Tennis. Tennis will never be the same

Is this the same aishwarya patil who sometime ago stooped to hit below the belt... i remember an acidic comment abt fed being useless etc and u pulled mirka into the scenario... Ahem...! anyways, i am just wondering if u will write the obituary of Nadal when he loses here...! will ya? at the moment u can enjoy ur shortlived obituary which will last less than nadal s competent tennis in a half season - 5 months..!

It had to happen..Roger loses now mostly because there r gud players around him..previously he never had tough competetion or any player who could defeat him.. he won all the grand slam in the absense of good players.. Only second to him was Nadal with whom he lost most of the time..
It will be difficult for him to win the Grand slam now..

RAFA.. the real King.

Good one Ali! When Roger wins, there are no good players around and so he wins. When Roger loses, he loses because there are better players around. As for Nadal, the clay court specialist, let us see how long his wobbly knees hold. At least Nadal has excuses when he loses -his knees, unlike Roger who only depends on his game and grace!

Thanks Federer

For all these years of dominance and all those records. I guess from top the way is to bottom and that is the way of nature. He has done great but even being a die hard fan of his, have to admit age is catching up with him.

Was devastated watching the great forehand making so many errors, backhand waw now where , slice becoming the weakest shot. More over the super confident approach was missing and reflexes were gone.

It will take great determination to cme back and play like the champ he is. But even if you dont there is nothing you need to prove that you were the greatest player of modern times.

Happy that the clone has learnt not to commit himself this time.Remmeber,he is the same idiot who said Rafa wouldnt win the French Open.So it's easy to see that his comments shoudln't be taken seriously.

MENS FINAL
by biswanath roy on Jul 01, 2010 09:13 AM

this years men's final will be murray vs berdych.both these players have the grass court suiting game i.e serve then immediately rush to the net to kill of the return of the opponent.tsonga was serving superbly and onrushing to the net till the end of the 2nd set,he looked the better player. however his game slumped from the 3rd.nadal is carrying a knee injury, & murray may exploit it. nadal had to go to 5 sets in disposing off hasse & petzchener.

We need some new champions. It's sunset time for Fedex, he is a great champion but mother nature can be quite merciless.

you seem to be confused.. nadal is the one irritating for most viewers. his antics on court is sick and keeps off viewers from supporting him. most other great champions get calm and composed and dont do unnecessary things like pulling the underwear out of the butt.
