Why cant this story be on one page?
by Manoj M on Jun 29, 2010 09:46 AM  | Hide replies

Dear rediff, it's getting irritating now. Every simple story is being put in many pages with hardly a few sentences. If you are so concerned about putting in pictures, pl embed smaller ones which anybody interested can zoom in. I hate reading 4-5 lines & having to click next to read more. I'm sure I'm not alone. This might be a way of increasing rediff page views but this is an extremely cheap way of doing so. Pl let us have full stories in one page.

the problem is that the government won't let you remain human. They want to know whether someone is a Hindu/Christian or a Muslim

Brazil has finished at the top of the group and got an easier draw. England on otherhand has scraped through / finished second and hence got Germany in pre-quarters. It depends on performance

the Chilians performance in the initial half hour was top class. but the kept a smallgap in their defense. that undid them. they will learn it. if they can close it and attack, they will be winners all the way in near future.

Why do these technophobes think the human element is out with the introduction of video analysis. Have the infrared cameras and video replays taken out the human element in tennis or cricket?

In fact, more people have started walking in cricket (after being out) than ever because they know they would be caught on the big screen lying.

FIFA is hypocritical when it says it does not want to rely on video cameras for any decision-making. Have they forgotten that the referee had NOT EVEN SEEN the Zidane headbutt against Matterazzi in last 2006, until the video cameras finally showed the replays.

It was only then that the referee decided to red card Zidane. So, the video-based decision-making is already there along with the human element.

FIFA is totally in denial, sorry.

Karthik,
Try to understand whatever Haris has said in his message then comment on it.
If not clear then read it in the simple words like this.
"FIFA is using technology for making one decision by viewing the video reply(i.e. Zidane's head butt to Matterazzi) where as on the otherhand they are denying a goal scored by England which was replyed on the big screen showing it as a valid goal or they have given Argentina a goal which is invalid."
Is it clear now?

@Mohammed & @Shesh

Zidane's head butt was reported by the line referee and hence he was red carded. FIFA never uses technology for any of their on field decisions.

Zidane's head butt was reported yes, but not seen by the referee. It was only after video replays that the referee took the decision of red carding him, which at the time, was an insanely brave decision.

We all know FIFA hasnt officially used video replays yet (if it hasnt in 2010, how can it use it in 2006), but the point is they DO RELY on it regardless. Thats the point. The human element is till very much there despite the existence of video replays, which is seen even by referees, and not by fans alone. Case in point, Zidane head butt.

FIFA is only delaying the inevitable.

Yes it was reported by the lines ref. It was one of the saddest moments in WC history as Zidane was up there with Pele and Maradona and had taken France to victory in 1998 and the finals in 2006.

You mean to say that the match should be stopped and everybody should look at the big screen after every wistle o see whether the decision was right or wrong.It can only happen in boring game like cricket not footbal which is electrifying.No doubt the advertisers might want to have the stoppages to put as many ads in that period

The funniest one is
SPAIN = SOUTH AFRICA.
These 2 teams are really good but always under performer in the world stage.

nice comparison....

England = India ( exactly,both are big on papers and in media hype...more intrested in media fame,money than the game)

Spain = South Africa (two good teams perform very will in all the stages except in major finals...)

Lets hope this time netherland/Spain to lift the cup...two very good deserved teams to lift the cup....
