If BCCI do not control the IPL, same will be the fate of indian cricket.

GOod riddance

It is a good riddance to see England out of WC. They should thank their stars they reached Round 2. Go back to your pubs and enjoy English summer.

English Football

One guy was remarking in these blogs, towards the start of this WC that Germans don't have 'stars' like Rooney and nobody really was interested to see 1-0 draws.

Now he must have got his answer when his star studded England were bombarded by no less than 4 goals by the Germans.

England has been ruined by club football. Time was when Gary Linekar was English striker. Now everyone knows Wayne Rooney as Man United striker.

If it too so many decades for EPL teams to grow bigger than the national side, Indian cricket finds itself in the same circumstances in just 3 yrs of IPL.

Soon England has to host the FIFA world cup-the only way to qualify for the tournament.

EPL to blame !!
by ASHWIN KUMAR on Jun 29, 2010 01:57 PM  | Hide replies

Both IPL and EPL prove that money does matter over country. It takes a lot from The Man to rise above greed. Our BCCI "Indian" team doesn't have have. Same goes with English players. But again do I/you clean the garbage on the road outside my/your house before going to our air conditioned "clean" offices. Get the drift. Easy to criticize sitting here than doing the stuff. We Indians have no moral right to speak about the world cup and criticize other players when we cant even dream in a lifetime of sending a team for football world cup. Then again, do you allow the kids in your house to play anything other than cricket seriously.

mate,, good one. Totally agree with u. as a matter of fact, i was an athlete, state level 100 mts dash, district level in football. But my parents never encouraged sports in me and forced me to quit playing. I literally quit playing while i was winning championships :) now am in a different career of sorts doing a white collar job. The truth i realised is that India is not a country which will produce quality sports people unless until the whole system changes. Only a person good in academics will settle with a good job in our country. SPorts = No money = India except cricket. It is only the rare top quality sports guys who shine and make it to the top level, there is just no average level sports income like how there is an average level professional in IT or any industry.

Premier league and IPL

IPL will do the same to Indian cricket when premier league did to English Football. Create superstars from hopeless players and not contribute towards the nation winning any tournament. When money plays, sports takes back-seat.

Absolutely true...money is much above the game or country today... for eg. sachin tendulkar has enough energy to play ipl but not enough to play for country...wonder where all this is taking sports to...!!!

The only difference is - football is played by over 200 countries (204 countries played to qualify for this edition of the 32-nation world cup) whereas cricket is played by just 8 countries seriously and we call our cricketers world champions! Our world no.3 in badminton, Saina Nehwal(a real world champion from India if ever there was one, besides Vishwanathan Anand), plays a game played by many, many more countries than cricket. So, it is better to call our cricketers 8-nation champions or 8-nation heroes!
