Sinking europe
by manali thomas on Jun 26, 2010 05:13 PM

Australia & England were ruling cricket long time ago. When Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan entered the field, they made rigid rules while bowling, which were not in the original manuals. Still Sri Lankans and Pakistan bowlers made their way and sidelined them. India with Sachin's calibre, made the Europeans a laughing stock.

From Cricket, there was a fall from the grace.

In the field of athletics, the fiefdom goes to Africans... What next????

Badminton... Paes... Saina...Sania.. the list is just coming up!!!!

what makes a 9 year old play soccer
by talk cool on Jun 25, 2010 07:44 PM  | Hide replies

Any amount of infrastructure or any amount of money will not help India. We have to just question a basic question. what makes a 9 year old to play soccer? Just keep things simple.
Just keep the fun part. How do you think all the poor South American nations produced such a great players. It is the LOVE for the game.We have to just keep that point in mind and the sport will itself

@swetambar

And the difference betwn cricket chess and football is that football is more athletic game which one requires good fneutrients in the diet and that comes from money with Population
And It is only recently that the country is getting more financially better off
Blame this on the policies of the govt which has been ruling us for so many years

Suni Gulati
by talk cool on Jun 25, 2010 07:32 PM  | Hide replies

The man who brought US Soccer from dying bed is not anyone other than our own desi Sunil Gulati. He introduced lot of innovative ideas to improve the game in US.
He was allowed to do even though he is not native of US.
When Indians are soo talented then why India is not able to produce that kind of administrator? There is some wicked elements in our system which is stopping India's growth.

'West Bengal, of course, is obsessed by the Cup. Nowhere else in the world will you find such avid support for a game whose skills seem so hopelessly out of reach!'

So last 50 years they are supporting but failed to create a single international player. & its not possible in other 50 years

Match fixing? haha...To avoid any match fixing, which is possible only in the first round since from second round onwards its knockout, the last two games in every group is played simultaneously. Can you claim such a thing in cricket? Cricket is where all the matches are fixed my friend.

Also, if there is no following in our country, why are the news papers are putting in extra sheets for this? And did you notice that India winning the Asia cup was not the major news in any of the news websites of India? Why my friend??

And stop comparing a 10-country game with a 200-country game for popularity and world coverage. Even among these 10 regular cricket playing countries, except in India and Pakistan, football is more popular than cricket. In England, even cricket world cup matches are eclipsed by football league major matches.

Hundreds of broadcasters, representing about 70 countries, are transmitting the Cup to a cumulative TV audience that will reach more than 26 billion people. What abt ur cricket? please don't google!!! I know you are a big fan of cricket but please don't compare w/ this event!!!! Are you a Bihari??? :)

Arijit's number of 26 billion is correct. This has been reported in the papers as well. Note that it is the cumulative viewership expected across all the matches.
However, by always comparing cricket and soccer/football, we tend to confuse the issue and never end up giving any constructive solutions as to how our standards in other games can be improved.
Perhaps now that Lalit Modi has been kicked out of the BCCI, he can be recruited by the Indian football federation to market the game successfully!
