Europe is fast losing out ..... more to Asian, African teams than the South Americans. The South Americans were known to be erratic and somewhat non-performers in the big events, of course, other than Argentina and Brazil.
Re: The end of European dominance
by Forrest Gump on Jun 25, 2010 10:17 AM
fool. England, Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia all have qualified. Portugal will be qualifying today. Most likely Spain will also join in. That makes it 6 European teams out of 16. Agreed South American teams have really done well this time with almost all of them qualifying for knockouts. Possibly the reason is South America is also in Southern hemisphere like South Africa and the chilly weather at this time of the year suited them.

by madan menon on Jun 25, 2010 10:38 AM
you could be partially right. Because in not too distant pastin the past the Asian teams used bid adieu after the first round itself. This time two Asian teams Japan and South Korea have come through. Japan does not have a rich bootball history, they were behind us in the past. But they have trained well and spend a lot of money on soccer..Both south korea and japan both richly deserve their places..

one team member eats idli;another crabs;another pawa bhagi;then one takes dhokla; from the centre mawa baati; from the east fish; near the himalayas anything; the turban wala tandoori; one is dark; one is short and dark; one is medium height; one is fair and medium height; one is tribal; one is not a tribal; one is slimy;one has a flat nose; one is a sc; one is a st; one is tall and fair; my dear God;can this diversity ever think the same? now you can understand why we have no team spirit; the desire not to play and just to make money is common to all; the only thing that is common.

Go to hell. You pessimist. This kind of features happens to be seen all over the world, then why single out India.

The common thing in all this diversity which brings us together is our will to produce more people.

sudhir sood are you a terrorist or extremist? Now just see the other side..even with what all you have mentioned everyone feels they are INDIANS. If india wins asia cup in cricket it is the joy of every INDIAN. There are some defenite loopholes w.r.t caste, region etc etc but they are part and parcel of Democracy.

Very frankly you should have been scared about such diversity before 1990's, but after 1990's the pace of integration has been extremly rapid....today I can confidently say that India is moving towards a unified identity - a civilization on the rise from decandancy (you still find a few self critizing folks in this forum though) - very few civilizations have done that, Jews being one for sure (I would not qualify Chinese in this catagory - Chinese history has been relegated to the Museums)

If you know so much about Japanese cuisine and eating habits, then they also eat BASASHI(Horse meat). Why don;t you also settle there so that you will get the MANTRA of winning. Why are you reducing the Green Grass available in India?

target you need to get over inferiority complex. To get over you IC you need to do two things first start cooking in a few Indian houses and secondly every day morning go in the jungle instead of toilet.

Come on, lets face it there are big hurdles that are not easy to pass - 1. Physically we are not as fit. 2. We are not team oriented. 3. We are not as much professional. 4. If somehow we do make slight progress, our heroes would go for modelling or bollywood.
Come on there is no real chance. OK I take it back...we got the best bookies in the world who can bring down Australians, Africans, English...so we do have a chance ;-)

Seach for "Human height" on wikipedia. Japanese average height is significantly higher than Indian average height. However I sure that the people in certain regions in Indian (Eg. Punjab) would be generally taller than Japanese

Sorry you read it wrong...I said fitness, not height. In general it means flexibility, endurance and stamina. You could argue, it should include agility and quickness too in this context. I wouldn't argue.
BTW if Japanese are doing well, don't forget that they are 2nd or 3rd largest economy. They get facilities, training and food which is not available to average Indians. If I am not wrong they are in top 10 medals tally in Olympics. So I don't think just because they fall in the same continent (geographically) makes them same as Indians.

Before we became an 'English-speaking' country, we were doing okay in sports including Soccer (fourth in Melbourne Olympics). After the British left, ironically, there was an explosion of English education and dominance of foreign ideas. That weakened our faith in ourselves.

Jim Laker. He is not talking about Hindutva. He is talking the mighty culture (5000 year old) of India....., but after advent of this so called western media, which propogate western culture (useless). Our youth started taking to alcohol, drugs and many more to project them as modern India.......I hope now you got it.

Every culture is great for their respective followers. For an India, his culture is great, and for the English, his culture is paramount. The problem is not in the culture. Any system which helps the human beings live in peace and prosperity is a good one. Problems arise when people belonging to a particular culrural background tries to impose his idelogies on another. The abuse of alchohol, tobacco and improper sexual habits are not new to Indian culture, and are not propagated by the westerners either.

Consumption of somras abounded in ancient India. Gambling and putting up your wife as a stake was also part of our mighty culture. Idiotic to blame millenium old evils on the western media. The so called honour callings by the khap panchayats are not influenced by the media. Our youth are committing heinous crimes under the influence of these socio/religious fanatical bodies

No need to go all out on a society though such few crimes that happens in every society (though not speaking in favour of such crimes) - in the UK every girl is forced into sex (peer preassue which is part of the culture) or is raped, such are the great western societies, when you go to a trafic class in the US you are told never to stop if some one is driving rashly and inciting you - if you stop for a verbal dual the probability of you ending in a body bag is 75% is what I was told

Point 1 - we ar enot physically fit summarized it all, the rest of th epoints simply follows, if one is physically fit, such a person would naturally be more extrovert, less corrupt - Basically we Indians are extremly BComplex deficient - this is a national problem (This includes non vegetarians with their 80% rice 2% meat habits)

Once Asia takes the center stage in Football it will then start hurting our ego, not being able to share the limelight...and only then we Indians can feel differently about this game. So i pray for some more upsets from Japan and South Korea.

What superiority? In most fields like health, wealth, standard of living etc. they are better than us. I agree that we should cheer for Asian teams. But there's no harm in cheering for any team you like.
BTW, I was cheering Japan all the way. One of my friends remarked - "Another reason to buy Honda!" :)

WHY you SHOULD NOT CHEER FOR KOREA AND JAPAN= they are OPENLY raCIST, ABOUT INDIANS/PAKIS/BANGLADESHIS.
If they play well fine, but no special cheering for them, just because they are from the same continent!!! Neither would I cheer for Pakistan!!! But for Bhutan,Bangladesh,China,Singapore,Thailand, vietnam,Burma,Nepal,Maldives yes!!!!!

Have you ever heard a case of Japanese beat or abused Indians?!. Do you ever read news papers or see news ...recently japanese girl was raped by indians near gaya in bihar, an auto wala had took the things of a japanese traveller near richi street in chennai... google for more incidents of the cheating list of Japanese in India. Dont write if you have wrong statistics. I lived in Japan for two years ..they are really kind hearted and never showed racialism towards us (Indians) at any time. If u say Aussies ... I will accept that...
