I dont agree with you on the first sentence. But I will agre with you on the second if you add the word "only" after India.
why football is being compared with cricket? its like comparing a soldier shooting against his enemy in a war field to a 4 year old boy shooting his toy gun against his mommy inside his home
Re: Re: why

What is the point in getting proud of talent in a game which is harldy played by 10 countries...You like it or not, cricket will never reach the level of Foot ball...Because of huge population in India it might reach same viewership level and revenue of footbal...But cricket cant compete with the global acceptance which Football has...
Re: Re: Re: why

melby then who tied your bootless. run & produce your own talent in football. instead of claiming football maniac, show something productive. OK cricket is not played more than 10 contries, but atleast they have some credit into theor kitty. & they are crying & begging on a street like foorball players.

LOL@credit.
Wow, logic sure isn't a subject you should pursue.
10 countries. India is the most fanatic of the 10 countries. Plenty of money. Craze for the sport. Hardly any competition - kenya, bangladesh, sri lanka, pakistan & newbies like holland and whoever.
And yet....India fails to win any major tournament.
Now if that's not shameful, I don't know what is.
What a tragedy. But then, we Indians deserve no better. Let's rot in our own shit called cricket and like the proverbial frog in the well, let's assume we're the best.

again the same issue Mr. raj.
What I said. Do something productive. i sure, you people will not be able to produce a single internatinal player in another 50 years. dont blame us. even bcci didnt have a single penny in their bank to facilitate the world cup winner. Dont beg please......begging is prohibited under the Indian Penal Code

Hello Friend, Did I say anywhere that Cricket is bad and Football is good...What ever we say or like Football is the most accepted sport in the world. Even in a cricket crazy country like India we have many football fans.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why
by Takloo Haiwan on Jun 24, 2010 02:25 PM
i do agree with you. But what I am trying to say that Indian children cant even find a ground to play. Will you play football on a dusty, rocky ground. Will your skill developes in such condition. How many people can play football in a ground at the same time. If you know, in Mumbai all the grounds available are full of players. You cant even found your teams player in crowd. But cricket can still play in such condition & it prosper. But football, you have to remove all other players for 22 odds. is that possible here?

I follow the game more than cricket.I am from Kerala and I know hundreds of people there who follow football. I am not blaming cricket for the downfall of Football. It is the people of India who let the game of Football down here. Many might not agree, But I beleive a top 20 spot in Football will give much more respect to India in the world as a sports nation than a top 2 finish in Cricket. This is my personal opinin.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why

Only passion does not make a sportsman. Do you think all our cricketers chose cricket because of passion. There could be exceptions but many chose it only because of its stature. If you are not going to get respect, recognition or encouragement from authorities passion will not be enough for you to choose a sport. Indian people know no sports other than cricket will get recgnition here. Then who will choose any game other than cricket? Some body who represent the country in any sport other than cricket for 10 years will get less recognition than one who played one match for India. Then why children will choose football? Why parent support Children to play Football ? Only out of passion...? No way

melby, if it is a case, then why cant we produce a single internatinal player after followed the game for so many years. Where did we fail. Why are we blame government for not providing infrastructure. Now you shouldnt have any excuse for not producing a single player.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why
by melby augustine on Jun 24, 2010 02:35 PM
Sorry mate...But I think it is a silly excuse...Indian were world class when there were no grounds even boots...In India children are playing cricket and in other countries children are playing football in streets...In fact football is the game which doesnt need any other infrastructure other than a ball

melby now you are on the right track. There is no need to cry over not been in football world cup as an Indian. We dont follow the game regularly. there are so many reasons behind it. so just enjoy the game & dont blame anyone.

Cricket is actually a pretty pathetic sport. It's not surprising that it's not anywhere as popular as hockey, rugby, baseball, basketball - even though these sports are not played all across the world.
The REAL question is about the NATURE of the sport. Cricket, by its very nature, is a DULL sport.
Pregnant women can play cricket. Think about it. It's actually good exercise for them. Where is the intensity?!
As men we demand action that gives us a rush. Not stuff that puts us to sleep! Try this - next time there's a one day cricket match, look around and you'll spot at least 1 person who has dozed off watching cricket. Now that's action for you!
I feel sorry for my country. Lazy people, lazy sport. We can't sprint, we need extra protection in our sports (cricketers need helmets, gloves, knee pads, leg pads, elbow pads, and what not), we are ZERO in athletics....my my....am I having a bad day writing all this or what?
I don't blame cricket. A dung beetle will feed on dung...it's the nature of the beast. Just like an Indian will feed on Cricket...dung for the beetle...and laziness for the Indian.
Re: Re: why

sorry Raj. Immmpotent cant produce anything instead blamegame. please focus on what you support & give the results..
Re: Re: Re: why
by Raj on Jun 24, 2010 03:17 PM
Takloo, don't apologise.
I understand your frustration. Games are played to be won, to feel proud, to feel victorious, to receive recognition, to feel manly and masculine. On a global level, cricket achieves none of those. I feel your pain.
Don't worry, someday cricket will be played by other countries apart kenya, Bangladesk, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, etc. These countries are severely into debt, have no prosperity index, and sponsor violation of basic human rights - and yes, they're major market for cricket.
Football is fast catching up in India. Here in Delhi we have major events across the entire NCR. Unlike cricketers, footballers don't indulge in petty politics. Why? Cuz they spend their energy on running around, not wearing gloves and protective their delicate, skinny legs. LOL.
What a tragedy - in spite of having so much money for cricket, we still LOSE at what we do best - being lazy. LOL.
Shame - if only we won in cricket - the game could draw more respect. Losers these cricketers and their fans - all talk and no show.

Raj You are still to create your own players ^ that is not possible in 50 years too. So play your 3rd class club football & cheer for nothing.
Developed sports is outcome of developed economy and doesnt have to do with population. That explains even tiny countries like Honduras, slovenia, etc playing this sport.
In cities one can now find kids aged 3 carring tennis raquets. As people are getting richer, they are encouraging their kids for all kind of sports- taekwondo, football, tennis, badminton. When they grow-up, the entire sporting scenario will change.
Moreover FIFA cant do without India & China teams. If these country participate- FIFA earnings will double- 2 billion die-hard supporters will take fifa to different heights.
I think FIFA should give India and China wild card entry.Thinks will then start to change very fast here.
Ground advt : 70% of them are asian companies- emirates, kia, hyundai, mahindra satyam. Thats how the world future is gonna be-dominated by Asian companies.
I will tell you if all countries in the world start playing cricket (which will not happen ever) India will be lower than 151 rank which we are in Football. So please do not advocate for Cricket. Football is a mass game which we have not been able to master because it is a physical game and lot of skill.
Re: Stop Advocating for Cricket
by Venugopalan on Jun 24, 2010 12:57 PM
your opinion simply shows your arrogance, nothing else. The world has been playing hockey since decades, and mind you a lot of countries plays hockey, does our position go down to 151..Indians can also master the game of foot ball although it will take some years before they are world class. for football you need good sponsors, good coach and above all spectators who could encourage the game.
Indian cannot expect to win the matches in any games so long as nepotism reigns over professionalism. Professional doesnot entertain emotions and carries with it a sort of professional egoism which will end up as a sort of Hitler's acheivement, the result of which is devastating. As Gandhiji has professed let this country have a natural inclusive growth in which even the disabled are given opportunity and in the long run enabled and each one of us feel that we too have a role in this nation building process and all Indians have an equal share in all aspects of the nation. But this is goal which may take thousand of years to accomplish, but that should not prevent us from a start from now.
